it is about the size of a quarter and i can see it when i look in the mirror. it hurts to turn my head and the pain goes from the bump up to the base of my skull. what can this be?! its not tender to the touch but its pretty large (for being on the side of my neck)

While I am no doctor, I can probably tell you that you have a swollen gland. This happened to a friend of mine and the doctor told her to suck on a lot of sour candy, it helps to activate the lymp nohdes and helps to relax the glands. Is the bump right underneath your jaw? If so this is probably what it is.
If it gets worse or bigger see your doctor.
