I was drafted into the US Army in 1957. Served my time. Learned things I would not have otherwise learned. I love America and to answer your question. I would go into the military in a heartbeat but my age prohibits it. The soldiers who are bad mouthed by US citizens, of all things, JOINED and have a job to do, right or wrong, and I would join them today if I could..

Ummm, if the people you want to respond were drafted, then they didn't volunteer. If they volunteered, then they weren't drafted. By the very wording of your question, you've made it impossible to answer.
Just because the Government or the military as a whole are illogical, doesn't mean the individuals that make them up are illogical or stupid.
I volunteered for the Army -- through the ROTC program at college. I served for 28 years, even though I could have gotten out after 6. Perhaps that answers your question . . .

TD, long, long time ago, somebody in England questioned the need for monarchy. The person who answered the question had this answer: "we need a king or a queen, who in his right mind would be willing to die for a politician"
You pose a very difficult question indeed. We go to war trusting the cause (as it was presented to us) and trusting the people who send us in harm's way, We trust their judgement and put our lives in their hands having faith they have the wisdom to decide when we have no choice but to fight. Unfortunately, the history is littered with examples of wars where the leaders made exactly the wrong decision, for reasons which were almost always cynical and monetary. The young men and women who lay down their lives pay the ultimate price, the old men who make them sacrifice everything pay nothing.
Last death I saw was a young soldier who bled to death just minutes before I found her, her eyes were still open and she was clutching a photo of a loved one in her hand. I never want to see something like that again, and will never forget it as long as I live.
The first casualty of war is, invariably, the truth...
Unfortunately there are times when defense in a legitimate cause is the only way out, what are we to do then ? If that were to happen, I would serve gladly.
I was drafted and served, I learned taking a life is wrong, I also learned that lies are very often wrapped up in the flag and made into reasons for war. War IS hell... not as somebody put it "diplomacy by other means"
I do not know how to answer your question.

I was drafted, so I joined the Navy to keep out of Nam. The Navy sent me anyway. I also served 6 years of Air Force and then 22 years of Air National Guard. I'm retired, and too old to serve, but yes, I would serve again if I could. I regret nothing, including earning a meritorious service medal and a purple heart in Nam. I would volunteer again. I'm sorry that you don't care enough to do so

Again, the logic is flawed... if they were drafted they weren't volunteers !!
I enlisted in 1985 in the US Navy... did many WestPac Cruises to the Gulf, including Desert Shield / Storm. I took a commission in 1995 and left the service due to hearing loss in 1999.
I was brought BACK for Kosovo and released, and then I attempted to re-enter the service in October 2001 but was refused due to the hearing-loss.
I'd go back in a heart-beat.

Whoa ! You're asking the wrong people this question. Draftees didn't volunteer for anything, they were offered a choice, military service or jail.
This is not to say many fine young soldiers and Marines who were drafted, didn't go on to perform an outstanding service for their country, but volunteer is not one of them !

I was going to be drafted so I joined in 1969 and was able to pick my mos. I served in viet-nam and actually volunteered to do so as they were very short of medic's at the time. would i volunteer for this debacle?/ No Way!! Lets get our Army home where they belong. We already paid too high a price for political promises! Hey ! I still love my country , just don't want to see any more kids dead for a country that doesn't care! I saw enough die in my arms as a medic!

If they were drafted, they didn't volunteer, now did they?
(They also didn't run like Slick Willie. They served and did great things.)
