My father refused to be discharged from the expensive private hospital . But his own saving can only support him for two more months medical bill. If he insists to stay there as he needs oxygen for 24 hours. Will the hospital ask me to pay the bill though I am not in that country? My father is angry and cut my phone when I called him because I told him that I would not pay his bill . It is U$250 per day. I know he knows that I can afford it and I wouldn't give him up because of face problem. So he enjoys staying in the private room with 4 nurses looking after him. What can I do? It bothers me so much ? Please give me advices . Thanks for all who have answered my previous questions.

Thanks drvndrm2. He is in a country in South East Asia. Now I understand why he told everyone that his daughter is rich . He made them believe that he still has a lot of money to spend. But in fact , he will run out of his money in two more months. He told the nurse to burn him if he dies.

I wish you had said what country you and your father were in. If he is in a USA hospital and you did not sign papers saying you would be responsible for the bill, you do not have to pay. There are numerous programs that will assist your father when his money runs out, but more than likely he will not be able to stay in a private facility. Sounds like he was a jerk when he abandoned you as a child and he is a jerk now that he is a sick old man expecting the best from everyone and giving nothing back but sorrow

The hospital will not go after you. If your father can not afford to pay the bill, have him call the hospital after he gets out and work out a financial plan to pay the bill. Hospitals often have charity care programs and will write off part or most of the bill, depending on your dad's financial circumstances.
Good luck to you, and I hope your dad will have a speedy recovery.

I don't think, but if he runs out of money, they will send him on his way. It sounds cruel, but that is the way it will be. He will be send to a state facility and he will certainly not get the care he is getting now. Honestly though, $250 a day doesn't seem like a lot of money for what you say he is getting. I don't think he is being honest with what it is really costing.

I are not able to assume you would be held in charge. If he has loans he are not able to pay, except you co-signal, you're no longer in charge. Same for clinic fees. When his cash runs out, they're going to as a rule kick him out.

Do what you think is best and I don;t think the hospital can make you pay the bill, if you are unsure, contact a lawyer!

I don't see how they could force you to pay his bill, especially if you did not sign admission papers etc., and also seeing that you are in another country.
