Very good point.
Also, people are disgusted by child abusers, yet they can love and worship a God whom they believe tortures his imperfect children in fire forever and ever. Does this make sense?
The hellfire doctrine is pagan and Satan uses it as a tool to get people to either refuse to worship God because it makes him cruel & unjust or gets them to worship a God only because they have a morbid fear of being burned alive endlessly with no hope whatsoever.

The God I worship does not torture anyone. He is a God of love and all his ways are just.
Proverbs 29:26--"Many seek the ruler's face; but a man's right judgment is from Jehovah."
Daniel 9:9--"With the Lord our God are mercies and pardons, for we have rebelled against him"

That's an easy one to answer.

These people are simply afraid of the authority of God.

They see God as a big powerful entity, and that one of God's rules is that "thou shalt not kill."

So, accordingly, they are afraid to kill. Why? Because it would mean that they are breaking a commandment and God will punish them.

Yet, of course, there is the egotistical desire that most people have which is to see others suffer, especially others who don't believe the same things that you do, or people who don't live by the same strict rules in life that you do. It seems unfair, so they want to see these people suffer to some extent.

So, it's actually fairly easy to understand why some people are adamant against the death penalty, yet have no problems with the concept of Hell. Hell has the benefit of people being punished, without you doing the punishing.

The point thought is to get beyond this type of thinking, which luckily is where you and I are at.

A lot of very religious people DO believe in the death penalty. The fact that some are hypocritical doesn't mean the death penalty is wrong.

Cursing what? putting a black magic curse on your enemy? confident. utilising language some human beings discover offensive? No. Zounds was once evaluate a terrilbe curse because of the fact it replaced right into a contraction of "God's Wounds". Language transformations and evolves.

Extinction with death would be the real death penalty. I believe that we are immortal souls and in the reusurrection we will also be immortal bodies. Only volunteers go to Hell or Heaven. What chiose am I making with my life?

You're right. I don't have a problem with Hell. What I have a problem with is the fact that people know where they will go if they do not change their ways, but continue on their path to destruction. Hell is not supposed to be for humans. Why do you think Satan is always whispering in our ear to do wrong? He wants to take us away from the Heaven we deserve, and he can't have.

Most religious people I know have no problem with the death penalty. They consider it an "eye for an eye".

I have a problem with the death penalty.

But hell is a choice. No one has to go to hell...

I think that perhaps God set that punishment as a harsh one to give us an incentive to choose Him and His Son. That's just a guess from a human, though.
