news is... news is an uncountable noun, unlike in French. You cannot have one 'new' and two 'news', you simply have 'news'. If you want to make it countable you have to add the word 'item':
'one news item' or 'one item of news'
'two news items' or 'two items of news'

News as a noun is singular, the fact that the word ends in an s is irrelevant, therefore news is good. Although sometimes it's bad.

e it does not have any singularity or plurality in form. News is news and there's no other way you can change it unlike dog to dogs. Hope it helps even a bit.

In the US, "News" is usually considered to be the singular and plural. Usually, one says "news is good".
If you said that "news are good", then you're left with the awkward position of defining what a singular "new" is.

In English, 'news' is a mass noun (or non-countable noun) like bread or music. You can't say 'a news' like you can't say 'a bread'. In this respect it differs from the French nouvelles.

News is good.
Because it just makes no sence as news are good. It would have to be news' are good. Which still makes little sence.
