Okay now that I figured it out I must have an electric for it has 6 strings so yeah i taught myself the wrong instrument dumb me but can someone give me the basics(i know the string order EBGDAE) but I want to know how to electric guitar tabs and how to read chords can someone please help me out?

If you cant get lessons from a real person right away, at least pick yourself up a beginners book- you can get one at your local musci store, or off the net from amazon. The book will have your tabs, chord charts, where to place your fingers, ect.

I'm a musician by trade and have to agree with the first answerer...there's really no substitute for a teacher when you're first learning an instrument.

Yes, someone can; a teacher. Thats a lot of basics to cover in a Yahoo Answers post. Your best bet would be to get a few lessons from an instructor of friend who plays.
