This trait of human nature, our individual insecurity in an infinite universe, is the basis for all religions. While I'm religious myself, I realize that in many ways it's simply a defensive attempt by humans to look as if we have SOME control over the uncontrollable.

It seems to be a day for noticing paradox.
You're right of course, that basic insecurity is universal. To consider its origin is interesting but far too much of a can of worms for me to take on on this forum.
However!
How can you control it? By force of will?, Pushing it under like pushing a beach ball under the water?
You'll get the same result. Whoosh!
And yet, anything that you won't face has power over you.
So what can you do?
Answer? Simply notice as it arises. Notice how it feels, in your body as well as in your mind. Notice it - and let it go when it sinks down again.
That's all you need to do. Notice - but don't react.

Or you can follow a religion which will make you feel even worse about yourself and be even more intolerance towards others.
