i answer it straight from the bible
Thou shalt have none other gods before me.
Deuteronomy 5:7
Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth:
Deuteronomy 5:8
Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me ,
Deuteronomy 5:9
King James Version
i hope you are satisfied with my answer brother. God bless you.

the cross has always creeped me out.... I mean, Jesus was not the only person crucified. All that blood, all that death, all that human excrement everywhere (you die, you release)
*shiver* ugh
What do you mean wrong? the catholics especially love the cross, and i see people with necklaces with crosses on them all the time.
Most religious doctrine has mandates against worshiping false idols, or false representations or even deities... and the cross, while a symbol of faith for many, can be seen as a false symbol, an oversimplification of the belief in Jesus as a man-god kind of guy.
The same reasoning explains why Islam forbids artistic representations of the prophet Mahamed.
The cross is a morbid symbol in my eyes, but I wouldnt say it's wrong fro christians to acknowledge it's importance in the story of their savior... I just dont think they should put so much percieved power into an inanimate object.

One of the 10 Commandments is not to make any graven images.
Think about it. G-d Himself buried Moses so the Israelites would not worship the dead remains. If G-d Himself knows the nature of the human heart & its' potential to err, then why would a cross be acceptable in worship?
It's not the cross that has significance, but what you believe the cross represents. If you can move past the physical object & instead focus on the meaning of it, THEN you have stepped out of legalism & into faith.

It's not wrong to use a cross as a symbol, but it is wrong to worship the cross. Worship God only.

I have never heard that it's wrong.
The cross reminds us of the sacrifice of Christ. That is what our belief is about...his sacrifice for our sins. It's good to be reminded by the cross. Additionally, Jesus says "take up your cross and follow me." So it is also a symbol of our path in following him.
It is not wrong to use the cross as part of worship. I see a lot of people answered about worshiping idols...that of course is always wrong. But an idol can be anything...no necessarily an image or object but anything that is more important to you then God.

That's a new one on me. What exactly do you mean in worship? The cross is a very important symbol in Christianity. It signifies the price that Christ paid for our sins so we don't have to. Rephrase the question please.

If you want to use the symbolism of your choice why would that be in and of itself wrong?
On the other hand if you say that those religious symbols practices and beliefs were inconsistent then they themsleves would say it is wrong. In strictly adhering to an anti-idolatry position any rigid innate nonsensible facet would be considered abhorent.

Because it's not accurate.
The cross was a torture and death device in the period they constantly refer to for guidance. However, it doesn't seem to bother them, worshipping something so vile that killed so many.
It was also an old Egyptian religion's symbol, though for the life of me, my brain isn't quite awake enough to reference what god it was usually connected with (I THINK it was Anubis... but I'm not 100% sure)
