Quite frankly, I wonder what they are smoking?

The 60s was anything but positive for the USA. Hippies, draft dodgers, duggies, etc...those are about the only "people" who would look back nostolgically upon such a dark era.

Life in the 60's & 70's was not so hectic as now. There were no cellphones, immigration wasn't so noticeable, the population of the USA was millions less and there wasn't so much crowding, schools were peaceful and we never heard of anyone going biserk shooting classmates. I used to be able to walk through the streets of the town where I grew up without worrying about being robbed. We used to leave our doors open at night and allow the cool night breeze to flow through the house to cool us.............only the screen door between us sleeping and the outside world and with no worries. You may have heard "the summer of love" where there were many dozens of concerts like Woodstock. I'd trade those days for these violent times in a second. Only thing I remember was the Cuban missle crisis when President John F Kennedy stood up to Cuba. I guess basically life was more peaceful. No wars except for Vietnam. Summer of '69 I graduated from High School. Joined the Army Reserve. Went to college. No doubt at all these were the best days of my life.

There were "hippies" but pot smoking wasn't so bad compared to what crack/crank/amps do to people.

The U.S. was at war on the other side of the world, the Beatles were the biggest thing since sliced bread, Hippies became known as crusaders of love.
And so peoples attitudes changed. This, I believe, was one of the most important times in the life of man because of the way things were changed. Think about Civil Rights, Woodstock,MAN on the moon.
Yes two Kennedy's and a King died, but all this shaped the people that we are today.

Haven't you heard the expression, "If you can remember the 60's and 70's, you weren't really there". It was a time of peace, love and rock and roll but also we stood up for and protested what we thought was wrong. We might have been a little stoned at the time, and some people actually did inhale, but we put our values to good use, not chasing the almighty dollar as many young people do today.

That's when the hippies started the free love stuff. Psychedelic drugs were in. Rock and Roll was getting really good. I think that is just when teenagers and young people started coming out of the "Father knows best" 50's where you always listen to the adults.

You had to be there!
and you have to be here now to really appreciate the 60's.
We loved the sixties for all the wrong reasons
Didn't have the fears, you could make mistakes, you didn't have to wear a seatbelts
No computers to analyze every phase of your life
no overload of information, useless or otherwise
people who talked without that edge to their voice, and the fear that they were going to be screwed by them
You had to be there

THE 60S LIKE ALL DECADES ARE SPECIAL TO THE PEOPLE WHO GREW UP IN THEM- THE MUSIC WAS SPECIAL BUT IF YOU GREW UP THEN IT BRINGS BACK MEMORIES OF WHEN YOU WERE A KID- THE 60S ARE BIG RIGHT NOW BECAUSE THOSE OF US WHO GREW UP THEN OR BEGAN OUR ADULT LIVES THEN ARE NOW AT OUR PEAK ERNING POWER- SOME OF THE THINGS ABOUT THE 60S WERE NEGATIVE THE WAR AND DRAFT DODGERS-AND VIOLENT DEMONSTRATIONS- WE WILL NEVER REGAIN OUR TOTAL CONFIDENCE IN OUR GOVERNMENT- BUT WE ALSO LEARNED THAT IF WE STOOD UP FOR RIGHT-WE COULD CHANGE THINGS-CIVIL RIGHTS BEING THE BIGGEST EXAMPLE- WHEN WHITE PEOPLE LEARNED THEY WERE VICTIMS OF THIER OWN PREJUDICE THINGS BEGAN TO CHANGE- HOPE THIS HELPS
