There are oil installing syringes that screw down put it into the low side while the car is idling with the a/c on. Compressor already had prelubricating oil in it but not as much as it takes to keep things running a long time. Symptom #1 everything is fine then on the hottest day...the clutch shears off the armature shaft. Symptom #2 everything is fine and slowly the cooling gets worse and worse. Pistons wear out inside the compressor shredding metal into the entire system. Traditionally mechanics install oil after the vacuum step with a measuring cup just stick the low side hose into the oil and dye solution and draw it in. Hope the compressor you replaced just sheared the clutch and did not fill your system with metal shavings... When that happens the second compressor will cool for a couple of days or week and the old metal will wear the pistons shredding more metal into the hoses condenser and now even more repair expense. There are ways to filter the freon high side and always when in doubt replace the filter drier or accumulator.

Most compressors are shipped dry. They do have a small amount of oil in them in case some one does what you did, but you should add some oil to the system.

Yes they have oil in them, but if you didn't vacuum the atmosphere out of the system it won't work for long! All that work will have been for nothing, and the new compressor can fail in the process from too high of pressure from ice in the system clogging the evaporator/expansion valve! Good luck with it.

It had oil in it, if it didn't your AC wouldn't be working and the compressor would be smoking.
