I am undecided about the truth in this Alexander Pope quote, it made me ponder, I thought it worthy food for thought.

Pride is the most terrible of vices, because fools are convinced that it is a good thing.

It doesn't help that the meaning of words changes over time. We must remember that it is certainly fine to be proud of something (such as a child), but we must remember our place and hold to humility above all things.

We call the care of our children's accomplishments 'pride', but in reality it is simply a love for their blessings and accomplishments: a joy.

Pride is a self-serving happiness, and a deification of one's own ego. Fools, both willing and ignorant, embrace this vice and glorify it.
