I just made cake donut holes, but do not know how to drop them in oil to make the perfect shape. How do I do this without using something I have to get at the store?

If you're talking about getting a perfect globe... its tricky to get them to look exactly like, say, Dunkin Donuts. They have machines and professionals. :) Most doughnut dough is stiff enough to roll between your palms to form a ball that's pretty close. Try using one of those frying tools that looks like a small flat wire basket on the end of a handle. If you don't have one of those, try a metal serving spoon. You can use these to lower the balls into the oil without:

1. wrecking the shape - or
2. sustaining 2nd and 3rd degree burns from oil splashing everywhere.

Alton Brown (Food Network) has an excellent doughnut recipe if ever need one.

Good luck!
