does doing tarot automatically imply some sort of spiritual force?

or couldn't it just be that you could use the cards as a way to help you think through situations in your life, with no spiritual aspects involved? kind of like a jump-start to get you thinking.

No, it doesn't automatically imply a spiritual force. There are readers who are using their mental powers of looking at the symbolism only, and do not believe they are connecting to any spiritual system/being. They use the cards exactly as you have suggested, as a starting point for thinking and communicating.

Even if you think of it as a sort of thought-provoker, and recognize that shuffling the cards introduces a random element, what you are using is a set of symbols with correspondences to some of the most profound thinking of our history. It's not just a set of pictures, it's a system which, when studied seriously, encompasses the whole of human life and human spiritual development.

If you really want something less laden with symbolism, use an ordinary playing card deck, which was derived from the part of the Tarot deck less heavily laden with spiritual significance.

My own recommendation, however, would be to learn what the symbols mean and use the Tarot seriously. You'll get a great deal more than a jump-start.

You'd have to tell me what you personally believe in religiously (as an atheist would probably believe that Tarot is just random) and I might elaborate... to a certain degree....

Then again it just might be random?hmmm

There is an author who goes along those lines that Tarot is simply a method for your 'higher' self to communicate via this tool. As Tarot is a tool.
Imho she would mean 'whichever the brain functions lie undiscovered/ unused' in you might provide an input. But, there is more to it... You could get a deck and experiment they usually come with an instruction book

In reality though there is more involved. There are yahoo groups that offer Tarot study, If this is truly what you want and not just asking out of boredom hey, noone can stop you.
But, there is allot allot more..... if you want to, e-mail me... for further dscussion.
