I would like a list of homeless shelters and transitional houses with a summary on the services they provide, length of stay, etc. etc.

Try the local United Way to give you information, or you could try putting in your zip code and the word "homeless" into the search engine at www.guidestar.org and then checking them out that way. In their 990 forms, which they provide to the government, it will say exactly what services they provide.

I would contact the agency in your city has deals with the homeless. they should be able to help you locate shelters either supported by the town or city and private ones run by organizations like the Salvation Army, United Way, Volunteers of America and H.E.L.P. These are all organizations that have homeless shelters in NYC so they might have some near you if you live in a big city or are near one. They probably all have web sites that will give you the information that you seek.
