According to salary.com, the median expected yearly salary for a typical social worker (BSW) in the United States is $41,821 but, the salary may vary some in your area depending upon which state you live in and which city you are close to.
Professional social workers are concerned with social problems, their causes, their solutions and their human impacts. Social workers work with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities, as members of a profession which is committed to social justice and human rights. Their approach is to consider the individual within the social environment.

well... The work can be very rewarding, but sometimes it can be heartbreaking. Depending on who you're working with, you may encounter children from broken households or abusive parents, elderly citizens preparing their last forays in the hospital and everything in between. If you truly care about people and helping them live a better life, then going into social work may be a GREAT career move. You'd think for the benefits that you're providing to society, the pay would be there to back it up. Unfortunately, Social Work has not been known for being a very well paid career. However, as my mother as told me on many instances, even though the salary wasn't as much as she'd like, the job more than made up for it in the everyday appreciation she received from the people she helped. Good luck!

Social workers are very much needed in our society, My sister has been one for almost thirty years and she makes about 92,000 but that's in NY and that's after 30 years experience. I'm not sure that the starting pay is and what end of the Field that you want to go into. My sister is an administrative of a agency for the homeless. Other social workers I know do clinical work and therapy. So you would have to decide which part of social worker you would want to participate in. That will to a great extent help decide your salary.

Social work a great career with many different aspects and job opportunities... Having a Masters Degree or higher is when you will make some money... Most social workers positions are not the highest pay and there is a tremendous burnout rate.... If you want a career where you will make a great deal of money you may want to consider nursing.... God bless****

If you're suited to social work, you might like helping others. The pay isn't that great unless you have a private practice and do counseling. If you're working with people who can't afford that, there tends to be a high burnout level among social workers. I'd interview a few to see what they think of it as a career and how they're paid.
