then why do some people still use lev 18:22 and 20: 13 as evidence against homosexuality

20:9 "For everyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death. He has cursed his father or his mother. His blood shall be upon him."

18:22 "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination"

20:13 "If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them."

why is it that of two things that are only verses away from each other, one is still in play, and the other isn't?

note: i'm not being mean or nitpicky. i honestly don't understand how this works.

Selective quotes is a Christian favorite past time.It was used to suggest that slavery was ok before the emancipation proclamation and was used to suggest that inter-racial marriage was against the will of God and so forth.Even the witch burnings and trials were excused with Bible verses.

They then will point to NT verses which back up their position. But either conveniently forget or honestly don't know that the word "homosexual" was a word invented in the 1800's and every reference they use has either an entirely different meaning in the original language or has a lost meaning.Hence the Christian past time of selective quoting.

Good question. The only excuse I can think of is that they mean "curses" literally (We ARE talking about fundamentalists here, aren't we?), and conclude that it does not imply merely speaking nasty things to your parents, but actually cursing them the way a witch or wizard might. Since they don't really believe a child could do that, it becomes effectively an obsolete admonition.

But of course, that is indeed nit-picking. The real answer is the fundamentalists pick and choose their Bible passages just as most other people do.

because it says throughout the time of Leviticus and throughout the time of the Pentateuch (of which it incredibly is a ingredient) you could desire to stay with the Church. that's what the NT says approximately Leviticus and approximately itself too. examine The Pentateuch as Narrative by making use of John Sailhamer you ought to have suspected this once you examine that a layman adminstering any of the capital punishments became to blame of homicide. in basic terms THE CHURCH CAN declare AND PUNISH. there is nowhere that blemished incredibly everyone seems to be to be killed. And by making use of the way, returned, 'blemished' is an exceptionally damaging translation of who knows what blemish (v.) c.1325, from O.Fr. blemiss- "to tutor gentle," prolonged stem of blemir, blesmir "to injure, make gentle," probable from Frank. *blesmjan "to reason to tutor gentle" no person is killed for being 'gentle" !!!!!!!

I do not know about you, but I certainly was taught it was wrong to curse my parents. (and I was pretty sure my mom would whoop me to kingdom come if I did).
Really though, in God's eyes those things are just as wrong today as they were then.

Romans 6:23
"For the wages of sin are death, but the free gift from God is eternal life through His Son Jesus."

I think Berean, said it best really.

We are taught to love everyone. That does not mean that we have to love the sin though. If we curse our mother or father how is that showing love? It is not so, that is not following Gods will. If a man lies down with another man how is that following Gods will? It is not, so that is not following Gods will. It is not up to us to judge others, that is Gods doing.

That's actually why I don't think being gay is a sin.
Because we don't follow Leviticus 20 :9, it's outdated.
Well... how do we know the ones you've pointed out aren't.

Because it's fun for them to pick and choose which verses to follow and which ones not to follow. They do it all the time. Verses of the bible only apply if christians agree with them. The verses they don't agree with...they're not required following.

Your question doesnt follow. Are you saying that God is now "for" cursing ones parents?
Just be happy that the Civil Code God gave to Israel is not being followed today.
God was against Homosexuality then, and He's against it now.
He was against cursing ones parents then, and He's against it now.

Most of the laws God gave to Israel was for the Nation of Israel. To make them a "seperate" people, "called" out from the Gentiles.
Though they all were rooted in His Rightousness, they were never meant to be followed by ALL of the nations.

So, He is still against homosexulity, and He is still against disrespect towards ones parents. That does NOT mean that He wants US passing Capitol Punishment laws against it.

I should also add here, that He also is against divorce (in principle) and against Adultery and Fornication (sleeping with someone who is not your spouse).

Again, that does not mean we should be passing laws against it.

But on the flip-side, lets not pretend that God favors these things by any means.

When folks quote one law and say, "Why arent you against this "one", like you're against "homosexuality", they are just using the "red herring" tactic.

Hope that helps clear things up.

The authority of the Church, empowered by God's grace, replaced the old law, and the Church definitively teaches that homosexual actiivity is seriously disordered and sinful.
