You are right. That is a large road trip. I went back in the day. I went this time of year, and recall that last stretch to Inuvik was particularly spectacular, especially the Ogilvie Mountains.

My first suggestion is to take different routes up and down through BC. Second, constantly check on road conditions, when I went we barely made it with road closures to forest fires in the Yukon. Right now in BC you need to pay attention to road closures to flooding and land slides. Third, it is a long drive, so if you can afford it, it is worthwhile taking a BC Ferry Port Hardy to Prince Rupert and/or an Alaska Ferry Prince Rupert to Skagway.

As for things to do. It partially depends on your routes, but here are some ideas. Dawson City is my number one recommendation. Make sure you spend time there. I don't know how much you've been around BC, but keeping with the gold theme, Barkerville is a great stop. But a bit of an excursion. Skagway is has fun touristy yet rustic shopping. Then Ksan Native Village near Hazelton.

Dont you have to drive it in winter because in summer the roads arent frozen and the only access to inuvik is helicopter?
