explain this to me. because the way i see it, god is omniscient and omnipotent, which means that when he created both satan and man, he knew full well what was going to happen and yet he created them anyway. so it IS ultimately his responsibility, whether satan or free will is the cause of evil.

i mean, if i KNEW that my husband was going to get shot if i sent him to the grocery store, and i sent him anyway, would i not be held somewhat responsible for what happens?

There are a number of reasons for supposing that no such thing as god exists, and logical conundrums such as this one are a small part. The bottom line is that there is no evidence to support any theory of the existence of god. See:

Okay, a tricky area because when you are dealing with beliefs people aren't always at their most logical.

As I see it until something happens there is always an alternative.

This means that it was never certain that your husband would get shot at the grocery store. He has free will and could have turned round at any point.

The guy who shot him could have chosen not to shoot him at any point right up until he pulled the trigger. He has free will.

Any number of other things could have caused your husband not to get shot - the guy at the grocery store might have handed over the takings more quickly, someone is the street could have stolen your husbands wallet, anything.

When we say that God is omnipresent and omniscient let's say that it means he has knowledge of all the POSSIBILITIES as to what can happen. If we believe that God knows everything that will happen then in effect we are saying that everything is destined to happen and there is no way to stop it. In which case what is the point of living? You're either going to Heaven or going to Hell and nothing you do in life will make a difference to this. This, by the way, actually makes God pretty cruel, because he is creating people with the knowledge that some of them, specifically, are going to go to Hell. Now you might say God is cruel for other reasons but that's another story.

Now, obviously having someone get shot is a bad thing but, there's always a "Greater Good" argument. Maybe the guy that shot him becomes filled with remorse and does a lot of good work with keeping children out of crime or something. I'm not going to go on but you can see where that argument is going, and why it could have some validity.

There are obviously times when God does choose to make or stop things happening but these are by exception rather than as a rule.

An alternative belief is what is called deism. This means that there is a God, he created the earth but he just let's us get on with things and doesn't interfere. This probably makes more obvious sense to people who believe in God but can't understand why he lets bad things happen. It is at odds with most religions though.

I don't know how many times i have answered this Q in the past few days!!!
What ... Is it the current flavour of the month?

Satan ALWAYS EXISTED - but merely as an Intelligence - though he had virtually none!!

God simply gave him a spirit to 'clothe' that Intelligence with.
Satan already existed, and already had his own free will, which God never interferes with.

With this logic, it is surely the responsibility of the Creator.
You must not forget though, that satan is man-made creation in order to use as scapegoat for our misdeeds.
The author of the good-book used the doctrines and beliefs of his time to explain the good and the bad and he used his free will to describe satan.
Furthermore isn't satan a choice of the free will?

Yes, it is an excuse in some situations. I believe it is God's way of 1) testing us to see if we choose right and 2) allowing us to mess up to find out who we are. I just have a hard time believing God would create something just to have it exactly like everything else. He gave us a mind (free will) and we can choose to use that for good or evil.

God is not responsible for Satans\lucifer actions.

Bible says

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

Isaiah 14:12

For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

Isaiah 14:13
King James Version

Satan said to his heart "I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God"

in his own free will he wants to be higher than God. and thats evil in action

God is consciousness, or mind. Satan is a human projection. Free will is the belief in separation from God. If you meet a spiritual person they seem very aware and very kind.
God is super awareness and super kindness. No satan or knowledge of Satan in God, and no question of poor use of will. These are things we create in our minds because we are mentally separate from God.
My opinion only, let no offense be taken from this.

Blah blah blah. There is no god and no satan.
Many religious people try to use logical arguments to make points but basing an argument on a false premise completely invalidates it.
