I was brought up Catholic, but in the past couple of years, I have been wondering all about it. I believe I'm more spirtual than anyting. I'm beginning to belive that organized religions are all man made. I mean, how can the pope, just one man, be infallable? There is so much more I want to know. Are there any good books or movies out there that can give me better answers?

Theres not much to research or no. Just go with your gut I think your starting to realize. JK lol Well I am not joking but I do not want to seem like a butt hole. Look into things at your own pace don't do anything you will regret later. I am not religious nor to I want to force people out of religious. I am very sure that all current religions are man made. There may be a god or creator but not like anything in our earth books. lol

I think humans are fools believing in something like kids in Santa.

Of course the Pope's fallible. That's why the job keeps changing hands.

Welcome to the world of rational thought! The first steps are sometimes a bit painful, but the thought of going back--without first getting a lobotomy--is downright torture.

Visit a children's cancer ward sometime. While you're there, ask yourself if this is the type of thing an All-Powerful God of Love would do. Visit a nursing home with the same set of questions. Try to ignore that many senior citizens have crosses and Jesus paintings in their rooms.

Questioning everything is what sets you apart from the rest of the pack. See the world for what it is--don't make up superstitious stories about it. Only then will you fully be able to jump in and help to better things.

I was raised in the same church. I lean toward Buddhism in the present. Things I don't like about the Catholic church:

1. You can't receive communion with a mortal sin on your soul. Did not Jesus befriend sinners.

2. A person that committed suicide can't be buried in a Catholic cemetery.

3. When you die people can buy you out of Purgatory giving $5 for a mention in mass. I guess the more Catholic friends you have with money, the less time you will spend in Purgatory.

A religion is a body of doctrine, that yes, are developed by men. I'd advice examining the spiritual nature of what you speak. What does it tell you?

The Pope is not infallible in all things only in the teaching of the church. He dose go to confession and prays that he to like all the rest of us will be forgiven. We must remember that no one is perfect and we all fall short of the glory of God.
There are a lot of good books out , start with Ewtn library or Barnes and Noble or any catholic book store.

Jackie,
I, too was sort of raised catholic but more spiritual than anything else. There is actually a strong movement within Catholicism that allows for more questions, more acceptance and more logic. The Catholicism of our parents, thank G-d, is not the only way. There are so many approaches you just have to learn about them. Try reading

Avoid the King James Version and try reading the New International Version, it will make more sense to you. The important thing is that you explore your options before you give it up completely.

I have a million text books and other things. If you're interested contact me. I'm not at this time personally Christian, or athiest, but I've been where you are and I feel for you. GOod luck and please feel free to contact me for more info.

I understand your questioning and know that it is hard to be brought up one way and later realize you're not sure you really believe it. I am Christian and therefore believe that the pope is simply a man, nothing infallible. Only one Man was ever infallible, and that is Jesus Christ, because, of course, He was/is also God. I don't know any great books off the top of my head except the Bible :).

there is much more for you to know- it's so good that you have this desire to understand more. Ther is no ONE book you can read to know more, you just need to listen to what God is saying to your heart. you could begin with the 3 predominate holy books, the bible, the torah(also the beginning of the bible) and the quran. compare them and study from them...God will show you the truth, and you will recieve a high knowledge.I will not give you my personal beliefs, because I am confident that God will show you the truth that you are actively seeking..if you don't stop looking.
last bit of advice: stand for SOMETHING before you fall for ANYTHING! keep up the good search. the answers are there.

There is always some truth behind lies...so I've been told. I don't think that one Christian based religion has it all right, but the gist of it is about God in the end. Pray to God, and ask for guidance, read the NT, and meditate, He will answer if you listen. Peace and Blessings.
