"Live in sin", for those who don't know about this old idiom: to live with and have a sexual relationship with someone without being married.

If they "live" together as man and wife, and if that relationship is loving, honest, with mutual respect, exclusive to the couple and ALL the other things that we "think of" as a marriage are there and honored and kept then WHERE is the SIN? Marriage is merely a LEGAL contract, governed by the State, or "Rules" implemented by CERTAIN Religious "authorites", to protect the rights and property of the couple should anything go wrong. God never established FORMAL marriage himself, If a couple promised their love, fidelity, and union together for life, then that was all it took to have a marriage. Marriage, as an institution only came along in the last few hundred years (except for Royalty and other rulers). The actual contract or institutionalization only came about as the result of CERTAIN peoples wish to exert authority over other people. It was just one other way to exert "control" over the population.

I do not believe in Hell....but regardless of being married or not, i can guarantee that if you piss your significant other off, they can make your life a living hell! lol
Actually, some believe that by living together and having sexual relations, you are considered married in the eyes of God. So is that actually a sin?? Or would it be adultry if you lived with someone else previously and had sex?
Hmmm....lol....Now theres something to think about!
Blessed Be!

If you believe in all that jazz, then yes.

My boyfriend's parents, my grandmother, and mother all believe this about us. My mother keeps her opinion to herself because it is my life, and she respects that. My grandmother makes occasional comments. His parents don't say it, but we know they're thinking it.

I'm agnostic, and if hell exists, I don't believe anyone goes to hell for something so trivial. I'm pretty sure the fact that we live in the same apartment isn't hurting anyone.

He's Christian, and he doesn't go to church or associate with many other Christians for this very reason. He doesn't think this kind of stuff is really applicable to every day life anymore.

On a very personal note, I've lived with two men in my life. Had I not, I may have ended up marrying the first guy, and that would have been a major mistake. Living with him helped me realize he was not the man I wanted to marry.

Living with my current boyfriend and likely future husband has helped me realize exactly how to handle our future together. We pretty much live like we are married now. If we can make it through difficulties now and are willing to work together, we'll definitely make a marriage survive. Had I not lived with him, I don't think we would have realized how strong we are as a couple.

If you don't belong to a religion and don't believe in it, then living with someone without being married is just a relationship and this question should not affect you. However, If you are a catholic, then it is considered to be living in sin, since you know what sin is according to the church. As for going to hell, according to the church only people with mortal sins on their souls are said to go to hell. You would have to define whether living in a relationship without being married is a mortal sin. Personally, I think there are greater sins that would get you to hell, like murder or taking your own life.

Whether it is living in sin, or stealing a chocolate bar, or cheating on an exam, they are just examples of sins that are committed because of the Sin disease that infects every human being, past present and future. Everybody goes to hell unless they get the cure.
If after accepting the cure you continue in sin, then God doesn't send you to hell. He just chastens you. I've heard it said that there is nobody more miserable than a christian living outside God's will. If you want to enjoy sin, make sure you do it before you become a christian.

No matter what any of us do or don't do, if we worship Jesus Christ as the Son of God and Savior of the world, we will go to heaven. Sin does not send us to hell......disbelief in Jesus Christ is what sends us to hell. That does not mean that if they are Christians living in sin, they will have to pay a price for the sin, but once saved, always saved. A true and mature Christian can fall away from God, but if their heart truly belongs to Jesus, they will eventually confess, repent and change their behavior and all is forgiven. That is one of the many beauties of life with Christ. Peace

How is "living in sin" and not repenting any different than lying and not repenting. Or saying to your friend "you fool!"? It's all sin in God's eyes. So of course Jesus' sacrifice is great enough to cover ALL of our sins. But the deception is when we think what we're doing is not sinning. The Bible makes it clear that EVERYONE has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. So, if we don't repent and receive the forgiveness and grace that God has to offer, we are still dead in our sins. So the sin isn't the issue, it's our hearts.

Well I for one would "live in sin" with my boyfriend and wouldn't repent for the simple fact that I only repent for the things I feel are wrong. And I don't see anything wrong with two people who love each other living together.

One can only go to Hell (the Hell of the damned) if one dies in a state of mortal sin. For a sin to be mortal, there are three conditions:

1) Grave matter
2) Full knowledge
3) Deliberate consent

We can identify grave matter, but only God can know whether or not someone had full knowledge and deliberate consent.

there is only one way to escape the punishment of hell, and that is to repent of your sin and believe in Jesus as your Saviour. "Living in Sin" would have to be repented. But the sin will be forgiven, just as an sin will if we just ask. But that doesn't give us the right to continually sin, and then just ask forgiveness at the end of the day.
