I've never given whole cow's milk to my 2 year old. If she wants a glass of milk, she has the 1% that is in the house. She does get "whole milk" from breast milk. We also feed her whole fat yogurt and other forms of "good fats" such as avocado and fish.
The reason pediatricians recommend whole milk is because it's a convenient form of high caloric food. Toddlers need fat. Most toddlers drink cow's milk so they recommend whole milk. There are actually much better forms of fat for human brain development - avocado, fish (not sticks), flax.
In short, switch anytime but make sure your little one has a well balanced diet.

I switched my daughter from whole milk to 2% when she was 2 years old. Then around 3 years we went to 1%... and she still drinks that for the most part but some times I give her fat-free because that is what we drink.

My pediatrician told us that whole milk is harder to break down and digest and that 2% has all the nutrition that he needs. He got this milk at 1 year old after we made the switch from formula to milk.

definitely it is not appropriate. she will drink entire milk and he or she would be completely wholesome. We those days switched to 2% (our daughter is two and a 0.5) yet we switched because of the fact having entire milk in the residing house consistently replaced into inflicting us to earnings a great form of weight. not our daughter yet us. We drink a great form of milk in this residing house, we consistently have 2-3 gallons in the refrigerator and once you drink as much as us, you're guaranteed to positioned on some pounds. So we desperate to alter to 2%, our daughter likes it basically as plenty, she is incredibly wholesome.

Since my son was a preemie (Almost 3 months early) we waited until he was 2 1/2 to switch. We give him 1% now because he is now caught up to where he should be, and our family tends to pack weight on easily. He will be 3 in Aug and no delays at all.

Hmm, this seems a little backward to me. I went from formula to 2% then to whole milk. That is what the pediatrician recommended. You may want to speak with your pediatrician to figure out what the best plan is for your child.
