I know they dont provide furniture but Im asking if they provide some kind of leased 2 week-4 week furniture while you look for furniture.Im moving to Ft.Campbell KY and I currently live in Guam. Its very hard to find furnished apartments online.I found so many nice places but they are unfurnished. When we 1st stay in the lodging they will only provide it 10 days free then we'll have to pay.So Im looking for places now before we get there.Which is very hard because the time difference. My husband is in the Army & he is out in the feild for 30 days w/no comminication. So its all left up to me to find the place and infomation.I could go to the base and try to do everything in 10 days but why not try to be prepared.Since its our 1st move we dont have furniture to go with us.We worked on a ship and lived with our parents on vacation so we never had furniture.

Its not really about buying the furniture its about the timing. When we 1st get there we will need temporary furniture until we get settled and find a car.Of course we plan on buying it.We dont have alot of money but we could still buy furniture.Im just saying when we are looking for furniture do they have furniture available to use.

Most posts have a "lending closet" where they have basic stuff like tables, chairs, maybe sofa's, bed frames, although its not the greatest looking stuff, its something to get started with, and when you finally get your own stuff you give it back to them.

After basic, but before you graduate, you'll be issued orders to report to your first duty station; this may be your schooling if you have a guaranteed rating. You're usually granted a week or so of leave/liberty after basic as well. Air Force housing is very posh, I wouldn't rule out living on base just yet. Wait and see where you get stationed first. You're not going to make much money as an Airman. And comparatively, you won't make squat compared with the private sector. As for your wife moving in with you, that all depends upon where you're stationed. You should go back to your recruiter (or find another one that isn't already biased to your needs) and get all your questions answered. Your wife is not going to be happy if you can't keep her informed about how the military is impacting your lives.

I joined my husband in Virginia 7 years ago. The Navy didn't provide furniture, and the waiting list to get family housing was like 2 years long. Even then families with children had first priority, and we had none. Our first assets were a rented run down trailer with one lamp, one very old couch with a pull out bed that was missing an arm that I found at a yard sale, and a microwave. We have our own house and furnishings now, but never received any assistance from the military. That was all saving money over the years to buy.
The military definitely needs to help more families, children or not.

The army only does that for families moving to overseas duty locations (such as Germany). There is no such program at stateside bases.
Once you get there you can check out places such as Goodwill, or Salvation Army. You could at least get a couple of the necessities for cheap. You can also check out the base thrift shops. Lots of people also give stuff away on base when they are leaving to avoid being their household goods shipment from being overweight and incurring charges.
You can always pick up an air mattress to sleep on until you can get a bed. Of course near almost every base you will find a Rent-A-Center type place that you can rent furniture from. It is expensive in the long run, but if you only need it a month or two then it is not too bad.
Good luck and welcome to the Army!!

Yes, there is a program for that. I can't remember which one though. I used Army furniture for a year and half in Germany. It was ugly, but I didn't care a bit.
Other choices would be the "Rent to Own" stores which are very prevalent here. (I don't recommend this)
Another one would be using credit. Many furniture stores here will offer a year or more of 0% credit. Delivery is very quick.
What timeframe are you working with? Arrival, his return from the field?
How many people? 2 or are there children?

When I was in, they did actually have furniture that you could rent. If I remember correctly. I was in the barracks my entire time in, so I didn't really need to take advantage of that. But I do remember a married buddy of mine getting quarters and renting some stuff. He got like a table and some chairs for a month before he decided it sucked and he bought some new stuff. I seem to remember it being free, but I'm fuzzy on the details. It was a few years ago and like I said, I wasn't the one doing it.
Anyways, they should have someone you could call to help you adjust to the move. Contact them and ask and see what they have available. Also, most bases have a ton of stuff like that for sell, dirt cheap. It's crappy Army stuff, but it is built solid and the price is right.
Also, check out garage sells.

When I first got married and was still in the Air Force in 2002 and living in Italy, the Air Force had given me temporary furniture which I kept while I bought new furniture. When I PCSed I gave the furniture back to them. I don't know if they still do that or not because it has been 5 years.

Well you asked about the military.
The Air Force does, if you are E-6 and below you can go to the Airmans attic and pick stuff out.
If you are E-4 and below you can pick items like furniture out ahead of time and they save it for you.
And they also have a closet you can borrow household goods out of til you get settled?
Are you living on base/post?

no they're not going to give you any furniture. you should get your apartment set up and get your address and stuff, then go online and order the furniture ahead of time and then when they ask for a delivery date just put the day that you're going to move in. that's what my parents did when they were getting their house built. but i know that they won't rent you any or anything like that because they didn't give me and my husband anything and i've never heard of that happening before.

i doubt it. from what i have heard, they tend to promise you alot of things and give you nothing. and i'm not just talking about furniture. You have dedicated your career to me, my family and friends. I thank you. I don't think the government does enough for you, given all you do for us, the people of this great nation. you will probably have to go to a used furniture store, salvation army or ask a local church for temporary furniture until you can afford your own. Good luck to you and Thanks again!
