I do not think this is the cause of dysfunctional families. You must realize that the absent parents from the home are a big problem. With both parents having to work these days leaves most kids being raised in daycare. How much time and attention do you think they get there. I do think that abortion should be an option, and every young teen mother is different. I think the best thing is to prevent pregnancy by birth control rather then abortion, but that seems to be too difficult for teens these days. My daughter got pregnant at 16 and I would never have forced abortion on her. Forcing abortion on a young mother can lead to mental health problems in there lives forever. Men have no idea the mental part of motherhood. My daughter did have her baby, and she is a great mother. I know a lot of young teens are not, but there are some that are. The father to the baby is still with her working and helping with baby. If my daughter would have been on drugs or was wild, I would have tried to convince her to have an abortion. Who has the right to choose that for you?

Look lady! I don't know if you watch the news or not. But there are plenty of people that were not born from teenage mothers and still some of the worst criminals out there! You have well educated Priest who are molesting children, Pediatricians who are molesting their patients and crooked cops and politicians. What makes you so sure that because a baby is born from a teenage mother that here baby would automatically become a criminal? Criminals come from all parts of society, even the rich and well respected. And on the other hand, some of our leaders in the community come from the poorest parts of the city and from teenage mother. Since you are looking for someone else's opinion, I say our society should concentrate on people like you who are looking to just kill off other human beings without any real reason behind it. Don't try to play God. He can only say who should live and who should not!

Well this is America...land of the free...land of opportunity. I think we should stop it before it gets to the pregancy...perhaps all boys should be dismembered at the age of twelve and then fixed at the age in which they quit tucking their tales between their legs and running from their obligations...I don't feel the teen moms are exactly the problem when we have a judicial system that is allowing criminal back out on the street and giving criminal parents visitation rights. I don't feel that teen moms are the problem when you have to have both parents working and are still stuck on welfare. I don't feel that teen moms are the problems when they have no choice to be able stay home to raise their child(ren) because todays society doesn't make it possible. Is it really teen moms or is it moms not being at home, is it fathers not paying support therefore mothers are working two jobs trying to make ends meet...I could go on... I am pretty sure that it is more than teen moms.

I think this is a rediculous question. I am pro choice. I do think that there are alot of people out there having babies that should not have babies, but there are unfit parents of all ages, not just teenagers. Nor are all teenagers irresponsible and unfit. Some kids may make poor decisions and may not plan to get pregnant but that does not mean they are not capable of raising a child. I think the country should improve their sex education programs in public schools, which are not manditory. Also most public schools, if they do teach sex ed, teach abstinance, which is great but it doesnt prevent teenagers from having sex. Teaching safe sex is not promoting promiscuous behavior it's teaching responsibility. As a female, I think it's outragious that you as a male think abortions should be forced by the state. Who are you to make that decision? Who is anyone to make that judgement call except for the parent to be? I do however believe in the choice to an abortion. Abortion is NOT birth control. We should teach these kids to prevent getting pregnat. As for your comment about a generation of criminals and dysfunctional people coming from single teenage parents .... there are plenty of criminals in this society that come from middle class homes. This question is both stereotypical and ignorant.

i think you have your topic of subject confused...teenage girls don't produce criminals so right from the start you have it all wrong!!...now im sure that in many situations teenage girls that do get pregnant are already in bad situations such as poor or homeless and therefore they are bringing kids up in horrible conditions which at some point may turn a child of a teen mom into a criminal BUT lets take a good look at the big picture as a whole ok!!...most criminals simply come from average middle class families and that's a fact!! i was a teen mom and there is nothing criminal about my kids...and abortion well although i DO agree with abortion i more so believe in education and prevention...its called being proactive instead of reactive to a problem...your ignorance along with many peoples ignorance is half the problem in its self!!

You know, I hate the idea of abortion so my first thought is to disagree with you. But I'd rather see a teen get an abortion then carry out a pregnancy and try to be a mother. It'd be nice to see these teens that do get an abortion never get another becuase they've learned from their experience and it'd also be nice to see them clean up their life. It's not just about teen mothers bearing the next generation of criminals. It's about them perpetuating a lower class, narrow minded and dysfunctional society. They're not all criminals and some children of teen mothers grow up to be productive but lots of them, mothers and their children, by being unproductive and stagnant. If you meet a teen who gets pregnant at 15 and meet her again in 15 yrs most likely her maturity and educational level will not have escalated by much. One of the theories I have ran through my mind was the small device inserted into someone as a form of birth control that lasts for 5-6 yrs (can't remember what it's called). It's safe and used commonly. I think it would be GREAT to insert these into teens once they hit the child bearing age. Then we wouldn't have to keep telling them to get birth control and try to force it in their mouths everyday. We could still teach them about birth control methods to use for the future and we wouldn't have to worry about pregannt teens anymore (just the prevention of STD's since, as teens usually do, will get lazy and think they won't need a condom since they can't get pregnant).

I cannot believe the ignorance of that statement... Criminals do not come from single moms nor do they come from poverty. Criminals come from all walks of life some of the most notorious criminals are highly educated the fact that you think its limited to a single mother shows that you my friend are in need of some serious counseling. Perfect example Paris Hilton Nicole Richie are they not law breakers? And are they from poverty? Teenage Mothers should be counseled and given advice about how having a child at such a young age can be difficult and can limit the fun years of being a teen , but not forced to have an abortion . I don't think any of us have the right to dictate on things of that nature...

That is a pathetic question don't you think? If that were to happen I wouldn't be here my mother was 16 when she had me and if she was forced to have a abortion then I wouldn't be here.
By the way I am drug and alcohol free and I am not a criminal never have been never will be.OH and I am so far from being dysfunctional Mabey you should go look in the mirror and check yourself because you need to sit back and think about those of us who would have been aborted that make a true difference in the world. Just because people have kids at a young age does not make their children criminals.
who peed in your cheerios MR. I am Perfect.

Why resort to such a drastic measure before trying other tactics simultaneously? If anything, it's not teenage moms that fail in parenting, it's the absent dads. Make the dads responsible. Upgrade the foster care system. Promote adoptions. Increase school choices. Improve education so that it's not just about facts and figures but about commonly shared values. Clean up the environments in which children must grow and they won't have bad influences to steer them wrong. Try these first.

Abortion should NEVER be forced on a person. That is cruel and wrong. I would never allow someone to force anything on me as serious as that. I also think that just because there are teen mothers that does not mean that they will all have dysfunctional kids. There are plenty of single teen moms that raise good kids. That is a stereotype that should be broken.
