I am a Christian, and I have children in the public school system. There are two sides to this issue.. and I'm not quite sure what your question, or if you even had one. But please bear this in mind: Our entire country was built on Religious Beliefs of God - not Buddha, not Mohammad, not ANY OTHER GOD. Christianity has been taught in our school system for hundreds of years. That is why we believe that Christianity should be taught in school as it always has been. I did not think that I should have to listen in science class about evolution, because I disagree with it, but guess what?? Too bad... On the flip of that, I don't want a teacher telling my child about other false gods in school as much as you don't want your kids to hear about God... so, this is very much a conversational item that you will no doubt hear a lot of different sides about.. but please remember, there are TWO sides to this issue - keep an open mind to the other one.

Alright, I will give my history lesson ONE MORE TIME for YOU. The CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES clearly states that there shall be a freedom OF religion, NOT FROM RELIGION. Second, there is NO seperation of church and state mentioned ANYWHERE within the Constitution of the United States. SO GET OVER IT. There is nothing wrong with offering elective religion courses to students in public school. This was determined by the SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES. Are you suggesting we ignore the same body you use to espouse the notion of "seperation of church and state"? After all, it was that same court which used a letter by Thomas Jefferson which had that phrase in it. Once again liberal judges throwing away the Constitution for their own gains.

Yes, but my tax dollars go to the public school's if my kids attend or not, so I will speak out.

Why shouldn't 'religion' be taught? Such an integral part of our country, and an integral part of world politics. Why should our schools be so short sighted as to blind the next generation concerning what drives peoples decisions in everyday life?

Its funny that you think 'verifiable facts' are being taught in the public schools.

Why not eliminate public schools all together, allow for only private funding for educational institutions and allow the population to fend for themselves? Why force the population to hold your secular, godless view?

Stop abusing the exclamation mark. It doesn't make you more smart.

They shouldn't teach just one. Why not have optional classes on religions in high school?

Public schools should be open to everything.
It's crap that kids in my school can walk around making fun of a girl who wears a hejab, and yet a huge Christmas tree is called a "holiday" tree, and a banner saying "Merry Christmas" is taken down.

And why are only we Christian kids given our holidays off? What about the Muslim and Jewish kids?

Religious kids shouldn't be punished by having to pay for private school anyway.

I'm just saying they should be open to everything; evolution and Jesus and Mohammad . It isn't that hard.

i think that they should teach religion at home. and teach facts in school.

theory is a basis of all fact. because for any new progress to happen it first has to be an idea. an idea becomes a theory when it is being tested. and a fact when proven.

it is a fact that evolution is a scientific theory. that is backed up by extensive research and other facts. but as of yet remains un-proven as a source for the development of the human species.

it is a fact that evolution happens on a cellular level. as many bacteria can be seen to evolve in less than one year.

if this was not so we would not need new flu shots every year.

I am a Christian.
OF COURSE religions shouldn't be taught in public schools.

Our public school system STINKS anyway and should be privately funded anyway - if people had to pay, maybe it'd be better for us all.

I also don't believe the religion of evolution should be taught in public schools - Darwin himself even gave reasons for it to be considered nonsense.

Homeschool, people, homeschool.

Ear,
I certainly agree with that. I do not want a "public school teacher" teaching any form of religion. They are not my idea of the best religious minds anyway. I certainly think that we also need to remove such Theories (Evolution) that are VERY SUSPECT from the science realm also. Have a wonderful week!
Thanks,
Eds

What would you rather kids be taught ? Evolution as a replacement for " religion " as you call it !

Evolution requires more faith than any religion so in effect it becomes a quasi religion !

Or maybe nothing ! Let them grow up by the law of the jungle ! Gee , that really works doesn't it !

Lol I don't know what your original question was, but I agree. Religion is a personal thing not to be taught by the state.

if you want your kid to be taught actual "verifiable facts," put them in a "State" publically paid for school? Well i would say evolution is not a fact! And they teach a lot of that junk in public schools!
