In group/out behaviour and internal politics in a group are the underlying causes of war.

People form groups based on race, location and yes religion. But sometimes people abandon war for the same reason.

In the past, religion and state were closely tied, so it was a basis for war.

On the otherhand, we go to with people we can't trade with. No 2 countries, both with a McDonald's have even gone to war. It is a sign of open trade. In the 1930s international trade collapsed and war commenced.

Religion in the past has meant groups don't trade and work together. But religion can also promote peace and understanding.
