Why do you feel you have to give something to people? They want to come to your home and bless you with good wishes, not get something! We are a "stuff" driven world and all need to pare down and simplify, not add to our collections. Just my opinion....

Your question is a bit confusing to me. Are you hosting a housewarming and you want to supply favors for your guests, or are you going to a housewarming and want to take an inexpensive gift?

If it is the first and you are actually looking for inexpensive party favors, I would suggest chocolate. (Chocolate is always a good answer - ha ha). Seriously, though, there are all different types of inexpensive but lovely chocolate party favors to choose from. You know your friends best but I would suggest perhaps chocolate spoons, or custom candy bars, or maybe little bags of chocolate covered coffee beans. Really, that's just a couple of options. You can buy these types of items ready made, or save a bit and make them yourself for less than a dollar each. You will find info. on how-to and where-to at http://www.chocolate-candy-mall.com/chocolate-party-favor.html

If you actually meant you are looking for a gift to take, maybe a nice set of dish towels, or a pretty photo frame, or perhaps a lovely scented Yankee candle. You should be able to get something nice for under $20.

Have fun!

For either situation (host or guest at this party) I would suggest bringing a digital camera at the party, and sending a copy of prints or a mini-scrapbook or a picture CD to the recipient. Make sure to get pics of everyone there, and a few shots that show off the house.

Include a handwritten note thanking them for inviting them to, or coming to your party and a little blurble about something fun that happened between the two of you at the party.

Other suggestions for a new homeowner: a kitchen gizmo or a set of mugs or a nice serving bowl, wine, a plant, candle, linen spray or air scenting machine.

For guests: a little bag of candy, cookie mix or bean soup, etc in a jar (the ingredients are layered, ribbon on top). A votive candle and you decorate the holder with raffia or whatever.

I would say a good house warming gift would be some sort of appliance, something that the recipient would use like a blender. The reason I say this is because most likely they sold stuff that was not the best of quality and were planning to by new stuff for their new house.

Usually a plant of some sort is given, but some people don't care much for the idea of having to care for them after they receive them. You may like the idea of giving them a nice plant container with a few odds and ends packed inside like extra cleaning supplies, fresh flowers (no guilt required), or painting supplies.
