I'm getting my Concealed Carry Permit and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a nice pistol?

I already own a Glock 23C 40 Caliber. Not a big fan of Glocks now that I have purchased the 23C. I've considered Derringers but I don't really want something that small, even though my Father (State Cop) is a firm believer in the Derringer 22 Magnums.

I like the .40 Caliber, but I also have taken note a 9MM comes in smaller handguns and would do a fine job in stopping a criminal.

So I've pretty much made up my mind with the 9MM Kahr PM 9093.

Just wanted to hear other peoples suggestions, and what they prefer.

A good concealed handgun? This is what I pack, depending on weather and type of clothing being worn at the time.

S&W 640sc .357
Kahr K40 covert .40
KelTec p3-at .380
glock 19 9mm

The K40 covert I have considered part of my patrol uniform for the last 5 years.

I carry the keltec when ever a larger gun can not be concealed

Never shot a Kahr. But I have carried a lot of different guns concealed. These are my impressions of just a few of them.

Glock 19--Great gun. Compact, but I can still get a good grip on it. Downside is that it's a 9mm, which is smaller than what I'd like in a defensive round. On the bright side, it does hold 15+1 rounds.

Taurus 851--Also good. It's a 5-shot .38 revolver. Low capacity, longer to reload. However, it can be kept in a jacket pocket and emptied at an attacker without having to draw it out of the pocket. Any auto would jam if you shot it like that.

Colt MkIV Officer's/Colt Defender/Kimber Ultra Eclipse--All compact variations of the 1911 Government model. Great guns, every single one of them, but I like the Kimber the best. 7+1 rounds of .45 ACP in a package that fits my hand almost perfectly. And the ergonomics are unmatched by any other pistol I've tried, except one.

Kimber Pro Carry--The mid-sized 1911. This is the gun I like best, of all the ones I've carried. The butt gives me a bit more length, allowing my pinkie finger to help steady my grip. The slightly longer barrel helps tame recoil and improve accuracy. But it's still small enough for most people, myself included, to carry inobtrusively.

Springfield Armory XD45--This is what I carry now. While I don't like it as much as the Pro Carry, it does have its advantages. For starters, it holds 13+1 rounds of .45 ACP. It also has a polymer frame and a stainless slide, which makes it durable and corrosion resistant. It's cheaper than all the guns I've mentioned so far, so I don't mind so much if it gets roughed up while I'm wearing it. On the other hand, this is a full-sized gun that will be hard for most people to conceal. Me? I've got broad shoulders and a (relatively) small waist, which means that I can wear it outside my waistband and it still disappears under an untucked shirt. Also, I live in a place where it doesn't have to be concealed, anyway.

I've owned .22 Magnum (Hi Standard) derringers and they missed fire on one or the other barrel frequently. You could always get one barrel (or the other) to fire but seldom were the times that one would fire after the other like they should. They are very easy to conceal.

I am a Glock man, I just don't like compensated guns, not any of them. If you can't fire them as is, then get a smaller caliber.

The .40 Glock or .9mm will serve well as a concealed weapon. If you'd really prefer something smaller, consider the Beretta Tomcat .32 Auto rather than a derringer. I've owned the blue steel and stainless steel models and they are very, very dependable and way more accurate than any derringer.

Best.

try shooting a glock 26. i really dont care for glocks since they dont fit my hand right and the grip angle is different but i have found the g26 to be alright. not as smooth as other guns but it does its job and it does it reliably. plus its hard to beat tenifer as a finish.

have you looked into 1911s? theyre fairly easy to conceal iwb because of their width. you would get all the benefits of a full size gun in a concealeable package. another plus is how nice it looks if youre into that.

im sorry but i have never shot a kahr so i cant comment on that. they seem like nice guns but i read somewhere that life expectancy is 6000 rounds(?) after that, i just looked at others since im not rich and i need something that would last a bit longer. just a thought.

good luck in your decision.

Try the Springfield V-10 ... .45ACP and small enough to carry. Springfield is the oldest handgun manufacturer in the U.S. and has shown consistent quality.

I'm not much for the new HD series but the 1911 is one of the best.

I also sometimes carry a Taurus P-10 but I found I needed the mag extension to control it properly. The P-10 is the stainless version of the Warthog. Good, reliable gun.

I once shot a Kimber 1911 sub-compact, the thing kicked like hell, but the .45acp cartridge and the gun's size are perfect for concealed carry. If you are looking for something smaller in caliber the Kahr is not a bad choice, personally I would prefer a pistol that I'd be carrying to have an external hammer, something like a PPK, but the Kahr is still an excellent weapon.

Get a snub-nose revolver in .357. They are low maintenance, easily concealable, and pack a whollup. With autos, you have to change mags out at least once a week, and they need to be cleaned at least that often as well, and you give up either power or magazine capacity for concealablity, and usually you give up both. And, you would have search high and low to find an auto caliber as powerful as a .357

i would have to say, fit, and function would be your top priorities. why buy something that will not fit comfortably in your hand, that will not allow fast remedial action to correct a jam should that occur. next. i would recommend purchasing something in the 40 s-w caliber. an old saying when i was in the military , too much firepower in just enough. but that comes with practice, and more practice, personally i carry a ruger, . for me it has all the desired traits i am looking for form, fit and function. but ultimately, it will come down to you as a gun owner to decide.
