Why do we see ghosts??

...serious spiritual/religious answers please!

For the people wondering if i have seen a ghost, the answer is yes! i have had an experience that was very real to me... the ghost i felt and saw was not someone i knew.

I have had an explanation before and was told that it was likely to have been what they call 'Lucid dreaming'.
I was just interested to hear what a religious opinion/explanation would be about this.

It is very difficult to explain to people who have not experiencd this... or even expect them to believe me, when i myself, still struggle for an explanation as to what was so, so, soooo.. real to me!
The experience scared me so much at the time, that i left the rented house i was living in - not had another (ghostly?) experience since!

In my wildest imagination i like to believe that God did this, just to remind me, that there is a spirit world and he really is there!!!
Know that sounds bonkers...sorry!

I am still open minded to a more logical explanation though...'Lucid dreaming'??? but, what about the people who see ghosts when not woken from sleep like i did????

Would love to hear anyone elses thoughts or experiences please...

Some people are more perceptive to the spiritual realm than others. WHY?? Good question, one that is for you and you alone to figure out. you COULD enlist the help of a medium, but for every legitimate medium, or psychic, there are fifty frauds. Sometimes a ghost, or spirit, has a message for you. Sometimes it just wants to say "Hi, I'm here" for some reason. Then there are the very rare mallicious chosts who have the intention to strike fear or harm. There are also incidents where what you see is not actually a ghost, but an image burned in the fabric of time-- an individual performed an action repeatedly over an extended amount of time (i.e. grandpa walked down the stairs at 5:30 a.m. every morning for 75 years) and we see this incident repeat it's self occasionally.

Never seen a Ghost, but was fascinated by this question.
Many people have spiritual experiences and feel the God is communicating with them.
Have had such an experience and it is truly shocking, I felt immensely vulnerable and empowered at the same time.

Spent a lot of time talking with the Vicar and other people, until then 'me and Jesus' were not on the same wave length.
Like you I was awake (and driving to a meeting) but it clearly was nothing like your experience, but I do feel you are doing the right thing by 'talking' about it and you are definitely not bonkers. I can empathise with that feeling and it took me a very long time to come to terms with events.

Do keep your feet on the ground, yes you will never be the same again but in that respect it is no different from many other life changing experiences people have (like surviving a disaster etc)

People often call these spirits ghosts, they are not some "ghostly spirit of a long lost loved one" but simply a spirit that lives on a different plain. Often they carry messages to other. The only reason you would see one or even feel one would be if they were trying tell you something they cant communicate any other way. If they take the form of someone you may know (an apparition) it would be so they don't frighten you. After all with such a narrow minded society, who would believe you. If you are needed to get rid of one I would suggest White sage.

i really think you should consider the fact that not one, ever has been photographed or videoed. Nil. Never.
Now with all the digital cameras and phone videis you would think that there would be thousands of photos. In UK they have that stupid most haunted program, they go to the most haunted places but no photos never.
Yes bangs, crashes, glasses moving but never anything that cant be explained as natural or faked.
That lying scouse medium gets possesed every now and again.
Hes a scouser so what do you expect?

You must consider that if there was even a single ghost there would be some concrete proof by now...but no rthere isnt any.
That should tell you something.

There are so many real wonderful things in this universe, there should not be any need to go looking in dark places for things that dont exist.

Because they want us to. Because they are around us, just on a different plain. They sometimes try and communicate with us.

I was lying in bed one night (I was wide awake) and I saw a red light, hovering beside my light. I waited a few minutes and it came back. I said something. And there was a white light, which went round my lightbulb. That whole day I could feel something (before I went to bed) I hid underneath my covers, trying to block it out. I could hear footsteps around my bed. This happened for a few nights. There was other things going on in my house as well. Nothing thats ever happened before.

And to those on about Most Haunted. Its tv, of course its going to be faked. They want it to be more interesting.

You see something you do not understand,a trick of the light maybe and your brain wants to explain it but can't..you then think.."Ghost".
I was travelling in a train once at night and saw strange lights in the sky which seemed to be following us.I couldn't explain it so I thought.."UFO".It was only minutes later that I realized they were reflections of the carriage lights in the window..I was mightily relieved.

There are others that are just results of people making things up. A man with his head under his arm????...yeah, sure.If ghosts were the disembodied spirits of dead people, would they have a head??or clothes??I doubt it.
As for that Scouse 'medium' , the program was in North Wales a few years back (between Harlech and Barmouth),when they'd left,one of the locals found a pre-prepared script of the program, what he was going to say, what the 'ghost' was going to tell him etc.The sad part is that there are hundreds of people that actually believe he is telling the truth.(Like wrestling supporters who still believe it's not fixed)..Sad really.

One is because they are trying to tell us something.
Two is because they have unfinished business
Three is because they are not at peace
Four is because their are evil entities
Five is because they do not want to go to the light
Six is because they do not realize they are dead
Seven is because the hold on to this world(Example a house that is haunted.That house is theirs and they do not want anyone to come in and take over or change anything like remodeling.
Eight is because they dont want to go to hell.They are afraid of God.
Nine is because sometimes are loved one protect us from something that is going to happen that is not supposed to happen.
Ten their are Angels sent by God to help us in a dangerous situations.
These have all been documented thousands of times,There are pictures of ghosts.Tapes of ghosts.Have you ever watched Ghost hunters they try to debunk sightings but in half of the cases they can not.Good question

I think its because the spirit does not want to go away. Im into things like this quite alot, at my work we saw a couple on the security cameras in our dining room and when we looked to see who it was there was no one there but they was still on the screen. Crazy.

The brain is very good at pattern recognition, to the point where you can see patterns that are not really there.

Shapes in clouds, in trees, in water, in . . .

Many ghost sitings are just natural objects that are misinterpreted.

There are many natural effects that are seen as ghosts: will-o-the-wisp, ball lightning, St Elmo's fire and even owls.

There are even some people out there who fake it to extort money and fame.

I see no compelling evidence for ghosts.
