Living to get into Heaven is the purpose we were created, and placed on this earth. Doing God's will is not self centered, it's our calling in this life.

I don't see how it could be. By going to hell, how is that helping anyone or focusing on anyone else? If you take the Biblical accounts of the way where you spend eternity is decided, than one big characteristic of people who are going to hell is selfishness and hatred. People who are saved and have accepted Christ and are, as a result, going to heaven, are told to live for the needs of others and love each other. So no, I don't think so. Of course if you don't believe in the Bible, I can't help you, and you'll just have to work it out for yourself.

Not at all! I am Looking forward to going to Heaven, because "Jesus Paid a Terrible Price " for my Trip, and I will rejoice and thank Him, When I see Him Face to Face. I am not at all self centered, Just Filled with His Joy and Security, and Peace, and Lots of Gratitude for what He DID For me. Praise His Name Forever. (smile)

The moment that a Christian thinks s/he can live in a way so as "to get to Heaven and avoid Hell," s/he has missed the point.

Christian doctrine is clear: there is nothing any of us can do to merit our own salvation. None of us can make ourselves worthy enough to be accepted by God - only God, through the saving grace of his Son's death, can purify us and make us acceptable.

Living a "good" life (inasmuch as we can live a good life) is not an attempt to get to Heaven but rather obedience to Christ's command to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. Christians are not to do good works because of the spiritual rewards they may bring, but out of a commitment to follow the example of Christ and be willing to put the needs of others (in Christ's case, the need of the whole world to be freed from sin) ahead of our own.

Yes. But you cannot be self-centered and get to heaven.

To get to heaven, you rely on Christ, and you freely share everything you have, out of love.

That way, it's a win-win for everybody.

i think so, but im atheist, so then again, i dont cae much about neither heaven nor hell. although i do believe it is better to help others than yourself, so that would make the personal attainment of heaven self-centered. why not try helping other reach heaven, therefore attainging it yourself.

No not really because we dont live to get to Heaven that is just a benefit of loving the Lord Jesus Christ and accepting Him as our savior.

No because it is our responsibilitly to do this for ourselves.
There was a question recently about this same topic. And someone that is on my list said he asked his wife if she would go to Hell to be with him. She said no she wouldn't because she was for sure that he would take care of himself to make sure he would get there to be with her.
When you die your responsibility is to save your soul first, then pray that others will also.

It is the opposite to self-centered.

"All who are first will be last, and all who are last will be first"
