Absolutely -

1. I would have not given Adam and Eve more than a good talking to and maybe a slap on the hand.

2. I would not have punished the whole human race for the mistake that two innocent, naive children made.

3. I would not have committed mass genocide by drowning the entire world because my plans had not worked out.

4. I would not have made a bet with the devil about how much some guy loved me and, to prove my bet, I would have not allowed the devil to murder 10 innocent children.

... and the list goes on and on and on ...

This is an unfair question. God is very just. Adam and Eve knew that eating the fruit was forbidden and the punishment was death. They chose to eat it anyway.

Sin causes death. When people sin, the punishment is death. While this might seem unfair to us, it is what we deserve.

There is so much mercy in the OT. God delivered his people out of slavery and brought them into a new land. Many times they rebelled and wished they were back in slavery, but God forgave them. There were times when they worshipped false gods, and He still delivered them from his enemies.

What we see as inhumane is God's idea of punishing us or guiding us back to him.

The times of the old testament (with just a few noteable exceptions) were the closest thing possible to hell on earth, with all of mankind cut off from the grace of God by Adam's sin, and enslaved to Satan, the devil, who held the power of death over all mankind.

Jesus is the love of God incarnate, and when he arrived, he made all the difference, by destroying Satan's evil dominion, making possible the forgiveness of sins, restoring God's grace, and defeating death.

Christ and his Church are the critical difference between the times of old and today, and they remain mankind's only hope.
