it's an engine that has 6 cylinders. there are 4, 6, and 8 and some 10 cylinder motors in cars, there may even be some odd ball 5 or 3 cylinder engines out there.

Cylinders (pistons) are what makes power in your engine. Fuel is injected into it and ignited. Hot gas expands and pushes down on the piston "creating" power.
Some cars have 4, 6, 8 and some even have 10 and 12 cylinders. Motorcycles can have 1, 2 or 4 or 6 cylinders. Usually the more powerful engines have more cylinders. It is possible to create incredible power with just 4 cylinders but that puts lots of stress on those cylinders (so manufacturers go with more cylinders).

It is a car engine that has 6 cylinders, as opposed to 4 or 8 cylinders. The cylinders are where the pistons are, they are better on gas mileage then an 8 cylinder car.

In the picture you can see 6 big holes on top of the engine. These are the cylinders. Each cylinder has a piston.

a 6 cylinder is a engine that has only 6 cylinders. the best way to recognize this is to count the number of spark plugs or spark plug wires that is on the engine.
