I'm thinking about trying on this dress. However, in order to do that, I'll have to travel about 2 hours away. It is the closest bridal shop that carries it. I'm wondering what people think of the dress. I'm 5'3 and 150 pounds. Could I pull something like this off. I'm trying to lose weight. But, as of right now I'm going by my current weight. I don't want to buy a dress in a smaller size that will not flatter me.
Here's the dress:

You, like me, are usually put in the "short" category (I'm 5'4) ... the great thing about Maggie is that those dresses can look great on any body type. If you have a larger bust and smaller waist-line, then an A-line would look great on you (which is what this dress is). However, if you are opposite then you should think about doing something that will make your body look longer and bring your waist down. Always buy a larger size because it can be fixed to fit you if you choose to lose weight - it can't be made bigger. Maggie is a litlte on the pricey side so you won't want to buy too small and have the possibility of buying a new dress.

It's gorgeous. take a chance and try it on. Make it a road trip with some of your bridesmaids. Your weight isn't a problem at all. Don't worry about being short either (i'm 5'3" too). A good dressmaker/tailor can alter the length properly by taking the skirt up from the waist (just underneath the fancy bodice). That way you don't lose any of the details on the bottom. They did this with my dress and you would never know that it was taken up. They can also alter the mid section to fit bust/waist sizes. Maggie Sottero dresses can also be ordered in custom length so they don't have to do so much altering.

The dress is breathtakingly beautiful. It is truly lovely. My concern about this style is with your height. Since you are only 5'3", I'm wondering how the draping will look on a shorter person such as yourself. If the line of the draping "cuts" your height, then it may not be as flattering as when worn by a tall bride.
One thing you might do is try on a similar style in another shop and see how it works for you. At least, you'd get the effect, and that may help in making a decision to look at "the" dress or not.
Really, there's only one way to find out. Drive to the place and try it on. If you don't , you may always wonder.
You'll get dozens of opinions when you pose a question such as yours. The ultimate decision is up to you.
The dress is beautiful, for sure. But with the hundreds of gowns out there to choose from, you will find the perfect one! I just know it! And you'll look lovely on your wedding day, no matter how much you weigh or how short or tall you are!

That is a great dress. The way it wraps around the legs divert the eyes from the waist and stomach area and even if you have larger thighs you wont be able to tell because it is not tight fitting. Now depending on where most of ur weight is held it could look bad. I think it would be ok though. Besides, it is not like you are seriously obese or anything like that. As far as the drive. Make a day of it. Take your mother (or mother in law) and go to other bridal shops looking at cake toppers, bridesmaids dresses, floral arrangements, etc. It is a great way to bond and make her feel included. Good luck.

It's a beautiful dress and you will be a beautiful bride. Don't worry about the weight -- if you are like most brides, you will drop weight from stress. I would suggest that you start working out now, not only for your dress size, but you will feel clamer and more centered in the days ahead. Best wishes for a wonderful wedding and a wonderful life together!

GET IT, it is beautiful!!! Anyone can wear an A-line dress. Trust me, I got married a little over 1 year ago and did a lot of research on gowns and what body types can wear what gowns. I wore a Maggie Sottero Valencia for my wedding.
If you want help with dieting let me know. My husband was a bodybuilder for over 23 years and my dad taught me to workout when I was 10 and I am now 35 years old. I would love to help you. What bride does not want to look her best on her wedding day. Plus I LOVE weddings.

That is a beautiful dress. My dress is from maggie sottero too and I think it would well be worth the 2 hour trip to try it on. Hopefully you're only gonna do this once, so you should wear the dress that you want and makes you feel beautiful. Congrats.

What better reason to pile a bunch of girlfriends in a car for a road trip? Go ahead and get a nice strapless, longline bra and ,if you feel you need it, a waist cincher. This will help the lines look the best on you from the start. No guessing. Its an amazing dress. Go for it.

That dress is designed for someone with a tiny waist. I'm sorry but it will not look like that on you. Go to a bridal shop and try on as many gowns as it takes until you find one that flatters your figure. Be realistic. You will look beautiful in the right dress. Be open minded and patient.
