This one happened 150 years ago but I think its still relevant because Mitt Romneys Mormon church pardoned a terrorist mass murderer of Americans and protected the 100 or so other Mormons involved from federal prosecution!
It was September 11, 1857. A wagon train of 160 settlers on their way to California was massacred by a bunch of Mormons dressed in Indian clothes. 17 children under the age of 8 were spared and lived to tell their story.
1st. They dressed as Indians but after five days they changed tactics.
2nd. Then they went a bit away ,dressed back into normal clothes and acted like the Rescue Party who had negotiated a deal with the"Indians".
3rd, Then confiscated all the guns as part of the deal for "saving" the travellers and Mormon dissidents( who were the reason for the attack in the first place).
4th. Took everybody off a mile or so and shot them all. 2 men got away but were eventually tracked down and killed a day or so later.
5th. Took the 17 children they had not killed back with them to Salt Lake City.
6th. Got away with it. After a publicized trial, with the childrens own testimony admitted into the court, only 1 man was convicted and shot, John D. Lee. ( pardoned by Church 1960)
It ended up being called the Mountain Meadows Massacre. The first time in U.S. history that U.S. citizens were massacred on U.S. soil by religious wackos. This event is even more significant because the total U.S. population at the time was much smaller.(I dont know the exact numbers, maybe only 30 million or so) In todays numbers it would be around 1400 dead

I truly believe that Mormons are wonderful people. They are nice to everyone all of the time.
Honestly, I wish most Christians were. However, we are not because of human nature (sin).
I do not have a problem with Mormons has people. I have a problem with their religion. I do not believe that they are Christians and are going to heaven. I am sorry to disappoint you if you are a "member" of this "religion."
I have many friends who believe this "church" and its many MANY rules and regulations. I feel so very sorry for them!! But I have researched this religion so very much and have watched The Godmakers (1 & 2)--videos-- about this religion to try and understand why many people turn to it.
Honestly, I feel as if this religion is a cult. Take the rules that Mormon Missionaries have while they are on their mission: http://lds4u.com/Missionaries/rules.htm. Read them. They are absolutely ridiculous. If someone is telling you EXACTLY what to do and not to do, they are leading a cult.
Also, there have been so many changes-- and by changes, I do not mean minor ones-- in the Book of Mormon since it first was published. There was one part (forgive me, i don't know the name of the missionary) where God told this one missionary that he would fulfill some task by the next spring. Well, that particular missionary died before the next spring and never completed that task. Obviously, God did not tell him that because God never lies, He never says things that will not happen. That is one particular glitch in the book among MANY others.
Goodness! It breaks my heart that many of these people will never understand the real truth!! However, I believe in a God Who works miracles!!! And I believe that He will firmly shake this religion into the depths of the earth. And many will see His power and believe!!!
Don't get me wrong- I truly LOVE Mormons!!! They are incredible people. I just disagree with what they believe.

Mormons are generally the nicest people I have ever met.
I was mormon from birth to 16 yrs of age (began a christian worship of G-d when I was 14 and so was "saved" according to the "christians" but I didn't know it yet because I didn't know a "christian" yet). Although, I am Christian now (14 yrs since my full break from Mormon)... I've been having a hard time of it... I tried going back to the LDS church, but I couldn't. I'm not sure why, because I really tried to, about 4 different times... I think it's because I have changed too much and I believe different things now.

I was converted to the Mormon faith and after working myself into the Temple and going through all their secret ceremonies and secret handshakes and all other kinds of occult happenings inside the temple, I am thankful that I got out of the cult.
If you have NOT been inside the temple then you have No idea what Mormons really believe. The garden of Eden is in Missouri where the Mormons have purchased a lot of land! give me a break. God was married and we are the literally children of their relations, if we only keep to the teachings of Joseph Smith we will all someday be Gods and Godesses with our own planets, and continue to have children, we were given a new name in the temple so God would know us in heaven! Again, give me a break! The God the mormons speak of is NOT the God of the Bible. Check out a book or tape called "The GodMakers". There are suppose to be millions of planets with millions of Mormons on them right now! If you aren't married and sealed to a Mormon in the Temple, the best you can hope for is to be a servant angel in the next life. Bologna.

Never met one. I disagree with their additions to the scriptures, and have serious questions about the formative years of their religion. However, what do I think of LDS people? I'm sure if I ever meet one, we'll get along just fine :-)

Well, I'm LDS, I like me ok. My wife is LDS, she is awesome. I wasn't LDS all my life, but even as an outsider I thought they were nice people. Now as a member, I know that it is not a cult, or a false religion as others have said on here. It's a shame other Christian members don't understand their own church's history, or that of the Bible. They don't understand the scriptures in the Bible that pertain to the restoration of Christ's church. I hope one day they humble themselves enough to seek out the truth that Jesus would have them to learn.

Well, since I am one, I think we are pretty nice. We believe in Christ and in God, and in the bible. We believe we are saved through grace, just as other Christians are. We do have some different beliefs then others, but that doesn't make us wrong, or a cult. Just different. I'm posting a few sites that answer some questions about us. Feel free to check them out.

The Mormons that I have dealt with seem to be as fine of people as you will find anywhere. While I do not prescribe to their religion, they seem to be pretty devoted to it. In many ways, I have to envy them for their devotion.

Well, seeing as a bunch of my family members are Mormon....I really don't have too big of a problem with them.
It's just the religion (like most other religions) I don't agree with.
