I know in other sections it is used...but usually the highest you might get on either is 3 I would say (or if I check back to see if I have any on an answer in any other category that isn't hot button issues, I have none and neither do any of the other questions). but in this section...10 thumbs up or downs is nothing.

Yes, because then when someone says something a group of people don't like, they get the feeling that they somehow discredited the person asking the question by giving it a thumbs down. To me it helps make the person asking the question more worthy of taking notice that people were so upset. I wonder what they said that got such a reaction. I am not talking about someone who makes a blatant racist comment - I am talking about people making observations that are very interesting, but the people who perceive that the question casts them in a negative light.

Have you been to the politics section? Sheesh...talk about itchy thumbs. Mostly the places where the most oppinionated are have the most thumbs up or thumbs down action. Places like the art section rarely get any thumb action.

Religion and/or religious beliefs are definately a hot button issue...so yes, I think we do use the thumbs up/thumbs down more. Don't be offended. As long as your are respectful in your answers, if you get a bunch of thumbs down, it only means you struck a nerve. Not necessarily a bad thing.

No i do no longer think of that's going to possibly be banned. i do no longer supply a thumbs down for an answer I disagree with. I basically supply a thumbs down if the respond is rude or mean etc. I supply thumbs up for greater oftentimes than down too.

Probably...but sometimes the pet section sees their fair share. Especially any questions relating to pit bulls.

Probably. There are people who have admitted to going to R&S to get a rise out of Christians because they enjoy it.
