If one is to begin seeing a psychiatrist for a suspected personality disorder, will it interfere with getting a job in an airport? Is one required to inform one's future employer that one is seeing a psychiatrist?
Your input is appreciated. Thank you.

I'd like to clarify that there is some sort of governmental security clearance for this particular job where I think that my medical records CAN be legally accessed. So, in that light, can any disorder that I may have affect the employer's decision, legally?

That depends on the ignorance of the Human Resources representatives. They might use this information against you by not giving you an employment opportunity. The question is not being ask directly so, do not volunteer unnecessary information. Your employment application (some) ask for your medical records authorization. Authorize it and that is the end of it. You will be surprise at how many times stuff like that is not even follow through. The ? would be to find out if your new medical benefits have a clause of pre-existing condition in which medical services will not be paid for 90 days on a pre-existing condition. Please do not quote me on the 90 days because it might be less. You can ask very casually if there is a pre-existing condition on your medical benefits due to seasonal allergies. See? You did not have to disclose everything to get your answer. Always choose what is best for you, everyone does that.
People fear what is unknown to them.

do not EVER tell your employer you are seeing a Psychiatrist or that you are mentally ill if you are. Do not tell anyone else either. There is only one person you should tell, and that's your spouse or the person you plan to marry, that's it.

What happens is about 95% of the time people will throw it back in your face (attribute something to mental illness that isn't - like if you are justifyably mad at something they did) - You may think people know from observing you but the truth is they don't know unless you TELL THEM. Don't ever do it.

A therapist is somebody who has studied psychology, on the same time as a psychiatrist is somebody who's studied drugs. this implies that a psychiatist will diagnose you and probable provide you drugs to regulate your indicators and could refer you to a therapist. Psychiatrists take a greater scientific/ organic and organic view of issues. A therapist will attempt to handle the underlying indicators, even though in distinctive approaches reckoning on what form of therapist. i could propose you spot a physician who will refer you to the nicely suited person to work out - btw, how do you realize you have melancholy and OCD? have you ever considered a physician and been clinically determined, or have you ever self-clinically determined (on no account clever, in case you think of something's incorrect then see a physician). on your suggestion, OCD is composed of repetative behaviours besides as innovations, yet melancholy can contain repetative innovations. besides, my suggestion is to pass see a physician, and counseling could do you the international of stable. stable success.

Depends what type of job and what you are seeing the psychiatrist for. There may be some conditions that would impede your ability to do the job, some conditions are totally irrelevant. Hopefully you will be treated fairly, there are many laws and protections that have to do with discrimination.

Your medical records are confidential, so they won't know you're seeing a psychiatrist. If they find out and it effects their decision, that's discrimination, which is illegal. You should be fine, unless you walk around with a sign that says "I have a personality disorder, I'm a nutjob."

A government clearance will definitely be affected by any medical treatment but not always prohibitive. BUT if you lie on the application and down the road (or sooner) they find out, you will be fired.

Don't say anything about it when you apply for the job.

If you get hired, and you complete the probationary period, go ahead and tell them and get a written statement from your doctor. It's against the law for them to fire you or harrass you for having a mental illness.
