Is there some human trait that promotes having to be a member of some group in order to authenticate ones beliefs?

I think more and more people are coming out of the closet, so to speak, and are questioning their religion. I think there is a hugh "revival" for lack of a better word, that is moving people to seek the truth. And yes, there are still those who are afraid to walk their own path and will teach their children to do the same. But I believe in the near future, there's going to be a world-wide spiritual awakening and it's already started.

All I need to know about the path I'm on is written here:

Mathtew 7:13 Enter ye in at the straight gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
Matthew 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Enter in at the straight gate.

Walking your own path makes one accept the unknown. Most people aren't comfortable with unknowns and prefer set limits. I am quite comfortable not knowing all and I don't need to which makes walking my own path much easier.

strength in numbers. too many people feel like they can't be singled out for their beliefs if they can blend in with others. but of course, then people just single out the entire group! personally, i feel people are always going to be unhappy about SOMETHING you do, so you may as well be an individual so that YOU'RE happy. XD

People are naturally pack animals, and insecure ones. We need companionship and validation and don't like to be ostracized or seen as the odd one out. Unfortunately that manifests as most people following the crowd.

The bible forewarned us about that exact issue.

It would seem that the one group that does not need to reaffirm it's beliefs are the atheists.

When was the last time you heard to an atheist church?

Who do you know now or ever in history walked their own path? Everyone follows after something or someone.

I'm not a member of a group. I simply don't believe in god(s).
