My golden lived to be 13 years old. He was very active and very smart. He would bug me to death to take him walking everyday. He weighed 120 lbs prior to us putting him down for cancer in his leg. They wanted us to give him diet food and only a cup a day. At 13 and with cancer still remaining even after surgery a year prior, we gave him what he wanted. I would say no more than 2 cups of food a day. Maybe in the morning and then later. I'm not an animal expert, but 13 is a nice old age for a dog, don't you think? It's been nearly 3 years ago and I still can't look at a golden without missing my Rexie. Hope yours is a good one too.

The amount should be given on the package. For a dog that size the typical amount is 3 or 4 cups/day. All foods are different though so read on the package how much to feed your dog. 96lbs does not sound too high for a golden but you might ask your vet.

I have a Black Lab, and he eats Dry Food, about 3 cups a day. Some times less and some times more. We fill his dish every day and he eats what he wants and always leaves food in his dish when he is done.
My dog has gotten a little heavy with his age (he is 13), Lack of exercise, thru the winter months. We buy food for weight management when he starts to get heavy.

take the dog Hunting and Fishing with you. If you enjoy those outdoor sports, let the dog run loose and he will get a lot of exercise without you having to boringly walk him, plus he will have a lot of fun. a Retriever should not be denied those kind of oppurtunities!

It is natural. Some puppies squat, even if adults. Others carry their leg. Sometimes, even feminine puppies cross to the toilet with their leg up! I have a male, three yr historical cocker spaniel who squats, and a male, five yr historical yorkie who lifts his leg. Smaller puppies appear to love *lifting their leg*!

It's hard to tell if he's overweight without seeing him...why don't you ask your vet at your next checkup, and then they can recommend how much food to give him.

Hope that helps!
