It has a lot of calories just like any oil. You're best using it sparingly.

If you mean cooking with olive oil or using it in salad dressings, it is more healthful than many oils. Even so, be sparing with the fats.

You need some fats in your diet, but don't go overboard just because olive oil is not as bad for you as lard.

Like anything we consume many different answers can be provided depending on what point is trying to be made... when it comes to diet the considerations are far too many to simply say olive oil is good or bad if you want to lose weight! What i can recommend is that olive oil is certainly better for you than a lot of other oils (such as animal derived oils and mono...) also it tastes alot better than comparible oils such as sunflower or canola!
When trying to lose weight one should focus on a healthy diet and heaps of exercise! Small amounts of anything is fine - just keep balance. If you can substitute any oil with omega rich oils it is highly recommended!
Here is what wikipedia has to say:
"Olive oil is a fruit oil obtained from the olive (Olea europaea), a traditional tree crop of the Mediterranean Basin. It is used in cooking, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and soaps, and as a fuel for traditional oil lamps. Olive oil is a healthful oil because of its high content of monounsaturated fat (mainly oleic acid) and polyphenols. There is evidence from epidemiological studies to suggest that higher proportion of monounsaturated fats in the diet is linked with a reduction in the risk of coronary heart disease. [7] This is of significance because olive oil is considerably rich in monounsaturated fats, most notably oleic acid. There is a large body of clinical data to show that consumption of olive oil can provide heart health benefits such as favourable effects on cholesterol regulation and LDL cholesterol oxidation, and that it exerts antiinflamatory, antithrombotic, antihypertensive as well as vasodilatory effects both in animals and in humans.[10] Properties

Well, you wouldn't want to drink a cup of it or anything.
But in dressings and to cook with its no worse than any other oil (it does have some nutrients not found in other oils, so it is healthier than most).

NO! it is a good fat! just make sure you count it with your calories. even condiments carry calories. olive oil is amazing for your heart! however, it will hog cals. if you want a really good 'butter' while dieting, use I Cant Believe Its Not Butter spray! i used that and ate brown rice and veggies for a year and lost that last nagging 15lbs. i made sure to take a vitaman and eat beans for protien.
