The only collars I can find are breakaway and shes lost it twice. Once at the vets and she ran out of the office. Luckily the door was shut and the second time was just now. Are there collars that aren't breakaway? I understand the point of breakaway collar. But this time her rabies tags are gone and the shots cost alot and I can't get her fixed till I can prove she had her shots.

You can get a duplicate Rabies certificate and a new tag at the place you got her immunized. The law requires a permanent record of Rabies vaccinations, so they will have the information.

I don't know of any vet hospital that requires a cat have a Rabies vaccination before she is spayed. Are you sure they didn't mean that she had to be up to date on her other vaccinations, usually called FVRCP, and leukemia? That requirement is standard.

Non breakaway collars on cats are not a good idea because cats can get the collars caught on brush and so on, and get strangled. For this reason, most places in the US do not require cats to wear their Rabies tags.

Breakaway are safer. Since she keeps losing the collar, keep the tag in the house. Your vet should be able to help you replace the tag and prove you had the shots.

Ask the vet who gave the rabies shot to print you a certification letter....that should be enough to get her fixed.

As for the non-breakaway collar, I don't recommend it for an outdoor cat. Why don't you get her computer chipped and put the rabies information in the chip?

Hope that helps!

Since she is prone to losing the collar, you might want to get a harness for her, instead. Just like dogs use. You can then let her run freely without the worry of strangulation (even though she can still face alot more dangers outdoors) or you can tie her up outside so she gets fresh air without the chance of being lost or hurt. Good luck!!

you don't prove rabies with the tag - you have a certificate that you can present. do not allow your cat outside - much to dangerous. the vet will also have record of her getting it

The vet should have a rabies certificate, just call them and ask if that can be mailed to you.
