Verbally expressing your pleasure of food or what tastes good (yummy) can be expressed by stating what the flavor reminds you of, or what is pleasurable to taste. For example, some people might say bubble gum tastes like banana and vanilla. While other flavors may remind you of some thing or some time. An example of this might be, nutmeg my remind you of Christmas or thanksgiving. While a tangy fruity taste might remind you of orange blossom flowers and lemon rind.
When tasting food in cooking class Yummy is not what the teacher is looking for because he or she wants you to learn what food dishes need to be yummy or taste good.
Words like bland, salty, nutty, sour, tangy, fruity, warm (like you get from white pepper), and tart.
Other expressions should include texture, smell, and presentation. Things like... melts in your mouth, crunchy, smooth, creamy, fresh, flowery, burnt, etc.
Yummy isn't becoming boring to your teacher, your teacher is trying to get you to learn what flavors are, and how they interact with each other and the how they relate to food preparation and cooking.

When my bf tries to cook for me most of the time it comes out horrible, but I don't have the heart to tell him so when I take the first bite I open my eyes up a lot and go "Mmmmm" or I close my eyes and pretend Im like savorng the taste and say its fantastic.
Good luck:)

What's wrong with the food? A good cooking teacher will let you experiment and add your own flair to what you cook. After all, you're paying for the class and the food.

maybe if you stop pretending to like the food the teacher will change what you cook, then you can make genuine yummy noises....

My boss loves that word heh, he makes use of it as much as he can. there's no such element as "yummy" noises mutually as eating. Any noises mutually as eating are annoying :) I desire masticating with enterprise.

how about just a smile and a nod... Or just going "Mmmm."
Or, here's an idea... how about telling the truth. If the people's food sucks, tell them why and how to fix it. If you think it sucks, they probaby do too, and think you're a sucky cook for saying their sucky food is good.
