All other species evolve; however, since Cro-Magnon times, man has looked basically the same. I blame this on society. When a baby is conceived or born with a deformity, aka an evolution, we either kill it or perform surgery on it to 'correct' it to societal standards. Who are we as people to decide our own non-evolution?

SAMI,
Can you elaborate on the germplasm thing?

Pangolin,
I am not busted. 100 years of medicine takes the place of several hundred million years of evolution. For instance, had we not developed vaccinations, survivors may have developed enhanced tonsils, or an extra nose. Who knows? I am trying to convey the point that evolution is the survival of the fittest. Our bodies would eventually adjust if they had no help. I am not against medicine. I would not be here if it were not for today's medicine. But today's medicine does not allow for evolution either. Hence, is our evolution the continued progression of a reliance on medicine?

Here is another scenario. All other living beings on the planet do not require hospitals, doctors, and maternity wards to reproduce. Why do we as humans require this?

So here is what I researched on germplasm theory:
"It is otherwise called as germinal selection theory proposed by "Weismann".
According to these theory the body of an organisms is composed of two types of protoplasmi.e.- somatoplasm and the germplasm. The somatoplasm is organized into body cells and the germplasm forms the reproductive cells. The somatoplasm is susceptible to environment but is mortal and dies. The germplasm is act as bridge between the generation is immortal and is not effected by environmental factors."

The germplasm and the somatoplasm combine to map the DNA of an organism.

The somatoplasm, being susceptible to the environment, is being altered by modern medicine. This confirms my suspicions that we are modifying our own evolution. I do not like where this is headed. It appears that the direction of our evolution is being steered towards relying on medicine to survive.

Evolution takes thousands and thousands of years. We have had modern medicine for only a hundred or so years.

Busted!
