Why is it when I tell someone that I do not believe in god automatically I'm heartless and don't believe in anything they believe in? First of all I don't classify myself as anything I simply do not believe that god exists and I am dead set on that fact however there are parts of the bible I do believe such as "don't judge people" "treat people how you wish to be treated" things like that sorry I don't quote scripture! So why is it when I state I don't believe in god automatically I have no heart and I don't know the difference between right and wrong? Why is it that automatically I'm this horrible person? I personally think that people just don't understand that not believing in god doesn't mean that I'm against everything they stand for.

By the way just because I believe in parts of the bible doesn't mean I'm close to being a Christian sorry I never have been one and never will be one. The bible to me is just another book that while whole is pretty messed up TO ME. Has some good points on being a good person. Plain and simple

I'm open about what I believe and shouldn't I be when I am preached to almost everyday? I don't want to cause conflict but at the same time I feel not voicing my beliefs is just making it seem like I have something to hide I used to hide my beliefs from everyone. As I got older I said if I I'm not honest then I'm just a hypocrite I hate dishonesty. Oh btw I don't believe in hell I like to think once I'm dead it's over no more. And before I read one my choice to no believe in god was not because something messed up happened when I was younger it's because when I was younger I never really believed anything I was told unless it could be backed up and when I asked questions about "god" I got scripture sorry not proof to me.

It's not something that makes sense, which is why it's hard to understand.

Apparently some people in the world would have no reason to be good humans or no idea how to do that without their little book. So they can't imagine how anyone else could accomplish that if they don't follow that same book. They see no reason not to be amoral except the thret of burning in hell. Others know that's not real morality.

Think of it like those people who couldn't cook at all without following the recipe to a 't' as opposed to those who just kind of instinctively know how to put things together (the ones who write the recipes).

It's because You're an enemy and a rebel against God.

And why is it you were saying You're Heartless, It's because You choose not to soften Your heart rather than to accept that You're a sinner and Selfish Person.
What else could we do if you choose to Harden your Heart? Nothing anymore.

You know the Difference Between Right and Wrong. Why? it is the fault man bares when Adam and Eve choose to disobey God.
The Problem is, You refuse to acknowledge Your Sin and Your Pride.

Ehh, it's probably the people you talk to and the area you live in. In American society, according to a poll I read somewhere a while back, atheists were thought to be worse than homosexuals when it came to morality, and the thought that either is "less moral" than churchgoers is completely idiotic.

I live in SoCal and no one seems to think I'm a bad person, or if they do, I don't hear about it. On occasion I'll meet someone who thinks they should convert me, but I just let them know that the best thing to do is to just let it go.

I think in this situation, the best thing to do is not to tell them about your non-belief unless they ask, and if they start treating you differently, just say something like you're trying to disprove the stereotype about atheists being immoral.

There are two reasons for this:
1. The person has not been taught how to be tactful, kind. Also they have not been taught what to say.
2. You may have been talking to someone who is inexperienced or new at being a Christian.
Neither of the above applies to me, so if you would like to know of reasons for believing in God, just ask. I'll make note of your profile name and look for your question.

There are many people who have minds like steel traps, rusted shut, when they should have minds like a parachute, hopefully it opens when you are falling. You need not have a belief in an all knowing, infallible God. However, many of us do, and we take the Scripture in the Bible as a guide for us to live our lives by. It is not necessary for you to do that, for you have a free choice to believe what you will.
I look at it this way, if I may. I believe in a Triune God; God the father who lays down the rules, God the son, who shows us how to live by those rules, and God the spirit who is within us and helps us to follow those rules.
In all of our lives, from birth to death, we have someone telling us what to do, think Mom or Dad for example, then our teachers, then our bosses, then our spouses, lol. How we follow or obey those rules makes our lives either fun or boring. It is our choice as to what to do. Just ignore the bigots of Christianity, just as they have the choice to ignore the bigots of atheists.

First of all, I dont judge you. I dont know why you dont believe in God, however, think about this, You say you believe in some of the things the Bible teaches. I dont know how you could believe in some of them and not in the God who said them or who inspired the writers, according to them. Thats why the Bible is called the Words of God. It was all spoken directly by God or inspired by God. Also, the reason for the responses by peolple could be, because if you are not on Gods side, whose side are you on? Its either satan or God. You have to choose. If not now, you will later. A fool has said in his heart there is no God. However, Jesus does love you and so do I. Im praying for you

Some people take things more seriously then others. I would just be like you and be a diplomat about it if asked. '' Im not againts everything you stand for, but I personally have beliefs of my own''. - Nobody should take that the wrong way.
The Dalai Lama once explained that their is no wrong point of view, that compassion is'nt religious business, it is human business, it is essential for our own peace and mental stability, it is essential for human survival.
So if people are slightly defencive, it's because they don't want to be wrong.

Let them be, and remember, not everyone can have an open minded conversation about religion.

Atheism is largely misunderstood. Take this opportunity to show people what atheists can be, and don't get down when others treat you this way. Use it as strength. For everything snide comment you receive, do something nice for a stranger. Everytime someone says, "I'll pray for you," tell them you'd rather they help the needy. Don't be afraid to stand up for yourself, but don't expect them to understand. Explain to people that you can go good without needing a reward, and then go do some good without receiving a reward. Let them think what they want; their ignorance will bring them only harm in the long term.

I guess this is a rather hard topic. I myself am I Christian. I have been for about 2 years. My only reasoning for people to act like that whatsoever is because there are quotes in the Bible that say anyone who is not with me is against me. So in other words, if you're not a Christian, you are against God without knowing it because in the spiritual perspective of things, Satan is kind of drawing you away from God. (If that makes sense) Personally, I've never understood why people wouldn't want to be a Christian. As C.S. Lewis once said (I think- or something like this): If I am wrong, than I have nothing to lose, but if I am right, than I have eternal life or something. I suppose people think that if people don't have God working with them in their lives, than they are ungodly and therefore bad. This is not a very good perspective. God can be working in everyone's lives without us knowing it, and loves us all.

It is especially wrong for Christians to judge and make assumptions that non-Christians are wrong and bad because they don't believe in God. By judging, they are already not following the scripture, so they aren't being true to God themselves!

No one can make anyone belive something, because if they could, it would be meaningless. Believe what you choose to believe, and if God sees the potential to work for Him in you, He will reveal Himself to you.

Good luck with everything, and I trust you will make the right decisions. Contact me if you want to further talk about this. :)

You are not heartless....just illogical. I am a believer in a higher power that is the source, or creator of everything. I cannot imagine how one can simply conclude that even a grain of sand just randomly appeared out of nowhere. That's something a mindless creature is incapable of....logical thought. I have no belief in any religion, as that's all man-made baloney, but God definitely exists. That's who you will call out to at the last moments of your life. I hope I helped you understand.
