I play tons of sports and Im kind of more of a strength person than a endurance person, but I'd like to improve my distance running. I have asthma, so it is already difficult for me to run for a long time.

I can run about 11 minutes on a treadmill.. and a little less outside.

Are there any good tips on how to improve my running? I'd like to be at about 30 minutes.

Run as far as you can at first, say thats 5mins, then walk for 1 minute; then run as far as you can again, try and beat 5 minutes if you can, then walk for a minute again; keep going this the whole way. As long as you limit your walking to 1 minute and run as far as you can push yourself in between then the amount of the 30mins you run will improve, ad eventually you won't need to stop at all.

The best breathing tip that you can get is to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. This is a very basic breathing technique that is widely used. It will feel awkward at first, but you will get used to it.

To overcome your asthma you MUST focus on your breathing. You cannot let your asthma hold you back. Yes, you have it; yes, at times it can suck - but building your endurance and stamina will help you put that asthma on the back burner.

What I would suggest is running as long as you can (which appears to be 11 minutes) and slowly increase it day by day. Try increasing it by 15-30 seconds every time. The only way to get better at running longer distances is to start running longer distances!

Be sure to listen to your body though, there is no need to strain your body. If you do too much at once you will burn out and not want to excel - I've seen it happen many times.

I hope this helps. Good luck!!!

Well, what you should do since you are at about 20-25 minutes is that you should run the max u can but when you can't then walk a minute and run 2 minutes then once you get more endurance soon, you will be able to run the whole 30 minutes ! (For Example- day 1 = 25 minutes of running and the 1 minute walk, 2 minutes run, one minute walk, 2 minutes run. Day 2- run 26 minutes walk 1 , run 2 walk run until you can do all 30 minutes!!)
GOOD LUCK
