Definitely. We often see older cats with cavities. Not from the food they eat but from the tartar that builds up on their teeth at the gumline wearing away the tooth enamel. They're called "wash lesions" because it looks like the enamel has been washed away.

In theory they could but it is very very unlikely. I work as a vet tech and have seen hundreds of cats have dental cleanings done. Typically you see tartar build up, gingivitis, and loose or fractured teeth needing to be removed. I have never seen a cat with a cavity. They simply are not eating the nasty sugary foods we eat that cause cavities.

They don't get cavities like we do, but they can what is called oral absorptive lesions, which are painful holes in the tooth.
