Christmas WAS a Pagan holiday until Christians stole and revised it.

So why do you celebrate it? Are you Pagan?

Oh, and lets not forget:

Because its a ceremony and a holiday where everyone can get together with their families and celebrate that.

On Valentines day people don't think about the real St Valentine, on Halloween people don't think of the old Celtic/Pagan festival and the basis for the celebration.

Most cultures have a party on New Years eve which was rooted in a celtic/pagan celebration (Samhain) No-one says only pagans should do this - we should celebrate all the holidays we can with people we love and who cares what the original basis was!

So, what do you do to celebrate Christmas?

Give gifts? That is a Roman tradition.

Decorate a tree? That dates back to pagan times.

Light a roaring fire? That one is pagan too.

Go worship on the 25th? Whoops this there are a whole load of pagan and Roman mid-winter festivals.

So you are celebrating a pagan festival, by performing pagan traditions. Just why do you claim to be Christian?

The Puritans knew where Christmas came from.

They banned it.

I will give you an honest answer.

Because it's fun.

I grew up a Christian, and I always celebrated all the holidays with my family. It was a wonderful part of my childhood, and they're memories that I cherish. After I became atheist, I didn't want to miss out on the fun of the holidays, plus most of my family is still Christian, and they want to share the holidays with me. Now I still celebrate, but I just consider them to be celebrations of love and family. It no longer holds a supernatural significance to me.

Two things are wrong with your assumption.

1. I don't celebrate Christmas.
2. Christmas is actually an economic holiday, since that is the time year most companies earn a profit.

The facts hurt, don't they?

People who believe in Allah do not celebrate Christmas.

Atheists celebrate because Christmas has, in many ways, become more of a secular holiday for the majority of American society.

Why do others celebrate a holiday which was taken over from pagans and has pagan roots? It has become a day to get together with family and that has become a focus for a lot of people especially since families tend to be more spread out geographically than they used to be.

You celebrate it your way, let others celebrate it in the way they wish.

They like celebrating and getting presents and the like.

That's the only reason I can figure out.

Some Atheists don't celebrate Christmas. I celebrate my birthday, among other holidays.

Christmas was originally a celebration of the yule tide, a decidedly Pagan holiday. Christians stole it around 350 BC. Where have you been?

It is traditional where I come from. Families (sometimes) like to get together and it is always good to get presents and time off work. However, Christmas has new meaning and joy for me since becoming a Christian.
