Wow what a surprise that most people have given American horses the best ever award...

The best colt there has ever been was Pharlap who's winning record was outstanding in the 1930's...

The best Filli there has ever been was a horse that has only recently retired called Makybe Diva, who won three Melbourne Cups in a row along with a Cox Plate... a feat that most believe will never be repeated...

That's usually a debate between Man O War and Secretariat. And it's very difficult to choose between the two... they're both amazingly talented. But I believe the greatest racehorse of all time has to be Ruffian. I don't care if she was a filly and only ran against fillies... she was so strong and always had such a huge lead she wouldn't have any chance to realize whether she was beating fillies or colts. She's undefeated... she never lost... she is and will always be the greatest horse of all time.

Secretariat and Man O War are probably the two best ever but it's almost impossible for anyone to pick the greatest ever over the years.

The main reason is because of the different and changing surfaces of the race tracks themselves.

If horses are running on deep tracks they are going to have slower winning times than horses who run on hard tracks which are always thin.

Thin or shallow tracks are also harder on the horses legs and result in more horses breaking down so it is actually better for the horses to be running on deeper tracks.

I haven't got all the info on the track surfaces but I do know that there are more hard tracks than there were in the past so it is easier to have more impressive times on more tracks.

The older horses like Man O War would have been running on slower tracks so their times would not have been as impressive as horses of the past 30 years or so.

It's always fun to try and pick the greatest ever so my vote would go to Secretariat.

In my oppinion it would have to be: Seabiscuit,Barbaro,Ruffian, Man O War, Secretariat, War Admiral(4th US Triple Crown Winner), Sunday Silence, Afleet Alex, Funny Side,Fusaichi Pegasus, Seatle Slew ( First undeafeted Triple Crown winner he made a record that can be matched but never broken.)

Secretariat won the Triple Crown, and he set race records in each of the three races (a timing error prevented him from claiming the Preakness record at the time). His 31-length win in the Belmont is arguably the most dominating performance in horse racing history.

In other words, I'll take Secretariat, and you can have any other horse you'd like. I think I'd win most of the time.

Phar lap ( I believe that this is the way his name was spelled) - this was a horse from Australia I believe. I also believe Seabiscuit was a great racehorse too.

I think Barbaro. That horse had heart and no matter how far behind he was in a race he always caught up. In the end his races were not even close. G-d bless barbaro and the inspiration he brought to the entire world
