There is no one best bait. The answers you are recieving are going to be all opinionated. The best bait there is is actually the one you have the most confidence in. For me that would be senkos/dingers and spinnerbaits

good luck on trying to find the big one though.

This is going to be a person opinions answers again!
Real big bass you say then stick with a live shiner fished under a cork! I would go with a shiner about 8 to 12 inches long if I new I was fishing in BIG bass waters! If in waters the bass may not be say over 5 or 7 lbs I would go with smaller ones.I also throw large topwater baits for large bass (like frogzilla and others) because it is a little harder for small bass from 1 to 3 lbs to take them!
I say this because you did specify "a very big one"!

Plastic worms have probalby accounted for more bass than any other kind of bait. They are very versitile and can be fished from the top to the bottom. You can get any size needed from tiny three inch worms to monsters over 10 inches long. And the come in all colors of the rainbow - and hundreds more. Rig them Carolina style, Texas style, on a jig head, weightless and any other way you can imagine and they will catch bass.

A topwater lure can be the best way to catch a really huge bass. A Zara Spook is my favorite topwater bait and caught some giants on it. You can't beat the excitement from getting a hit on these baits.
If you want to learn more about topwater fishing for bass I would suggest you take a minute and read this article.

I personaly think that plastic worms are the best for Bass fishing. But I'd say, live bait, plastic worms, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, most top waters (depends on the weather), jigs, you name it.

That one that said "Liver" lol. I have been Bass fishing along time and never have I heard someone say use Liver for largermouth Bass. For catfishing I could see, but Bass? Come on!

Night crawlers are the best. Rigged on a slip sinker with a 3 foot leader. Don't set the hook until they start to move off with it

Early in the morning and, late in the evening, I prefer any kind of topwater popper. in between, I prefer Zoom super flukes fished on a 2/0 worm hook, with no weights. white pearl in clear water and, black or, another dark color in muddy or, stained water.
