deserves a star :)
I think that if everyone was honest with themselves, they would answer "yes" Seems to me, many whom identify themselves with one group or another whom is sincerely interested in an answer cover it up by making it seem different in their question just so the group they identify with doesn't start wondering about them :)
Peace :)
*noted, sdc take care! :)

Yes. I have. I ask some of them anyway. I have been here one year now and I have learnt a lot. Some things are better not asked if we cannot take the heat.
I want to be able to talk about the hard issues with people, but I do not think that anyone should receive hate mail and be subjected to name calling. I rather let them think that " They proved me wrong and that is why terminated the conversation".
I think the hardest issues are the ones that are dealing with our children and other loved ones. I think that the hardest question have ever asked was about the children and heaven, and I got encouragement for that question from unexpected source, or maybe not that unexpected. : )

Newsflash: taxpayers don't pay for public union employee pensions. That's a misconception. Out of every dollar that funds Wisconsin' s pension and health insurance plans for state workers, 100 cents comes from the state workers. How can that be? Because the "contributions" consist of money that employees chose to take as deferred wages – as pensions when they retire – rather than take immediately in cash. The same is true with the health care plan. If this were not so a serious crime would be taking place, the gift of public funds rather than payment for services. Thus, state workers are not being asked to simply "contribute more" to Wisconsin' s retirement system (or as the argument goes, "pay their fair share" of retirement costs as do employees in Wisconsin' s private sector who still have pensions and health insurance). They are being asked to accept a cut in their salaries so that the state of Wisconsin can use the money to fill the hole left by tax cuts and reduced audits of corporations in Wisconsin. The labor agreements show that the pension plan money is part of the total negotiated compensation. The key phrase, in those agreements I read, is: "The Employer shall contribute on behalf of the employee."

No I am not concerned that they might cause dissension or hard feelings. One learns by asking. However, there are those in here that ask questions which are thinly veiled judgments. I don't ask those kinds of questions.

I won't ask things that are going to cause dissension or hard feelings. That's not my intent, here.
Edit: Delivery is everything. If it's something I wish to volley to a Christian for instance, I don't set it up as a challenge but more "ask the experts".
ah, that's how I met you!

I want to ask questions about obesity, but people are flat out cruel about it. And I'm just not able to contain my anger or discuss the issue in a logical way when people rip on fat people, especially since most people who are so cruel about obesity have no compassion whatsoever toward the obese.
I'd like to help people understand obesity and why it happens, but I've learned no one cares. They're simply more interested in screaming, "FAT PEOPLE ARE PATHETIC. LOSE WEIGHT YOU FAT A**!" than actually gaining understanding. It bothers me a lot. Getting kinda worked up now just trying to express the frustration.
(Am I interpreting your question accurately? Or was it intentionally open ended?)

Good point, but I don't think of it as 'dare not' exactly, as others have expressed it's more a question of consideration, and not wishing to create more discontent. I suspect that most of the questions that I could ask, but don't, would offend a fairly high percentage here.
We seem to be encamped under a few banners, 'Christian', 'Muslim', 'Atheist', 'Creationist', 'Evolutionist', and so on, and I don't seem to fit under any of them, so I keep my head down, and answer where it seems appropriate, or possibly helpful .... to someone or other. ;-)

Yes! My wish for tonight is that the people that know the Bible so extremely well would explain it in terms for everyone to understand. If you can find the answers in the Bible.....translate it to words that people can relate to. I think a lot of Atheists and non-believers, even me, don't understand because it does get confussing.
I think finding things that people can relate to would make understanding God easier. Because God really isn't difficult, just the wording can be. :)

Sure.
I am just now back on answers after a several week hiatus. Some Deist a few weeks back asked a few legitimate and polite questions about the teleological argument. An atheist responded by threatening to rape her children. Several folks (about ten) chimed in saying "that's what she gets for f*****g with us" and "what a b****, she deserves it." After that, I hesitate to ask anything that runs against the status quo.
