Danielle, Thanks for the sermonette. You might like to know that no one will burn for thousands of years. The Bible is very plain that the fire is unquenchable (can't be put out), but will burn until all sin and sinners are consumed, then the fire will go out by itself. That's still future - Revelation 20 and 21. God will make a new heaven and a new earth and the lost will be as stubble under the saved's feet. Malachi 4.

This is a long version of Pascal....
And please - we're not hurt by or mad at something we don't believe exists. All the other stuff is all nice and all that, but it boils down to this - we don't believe. And I can only speak for myself here, but I'm not going to believe "just in case". That would be disingenuous and besides, any god worth his salt would see right through that. Please, someone, come up with a better reason to believe in the Christian god than "just in case you're wrong".....

"to not believe and burn in hell for the rest of eternity"
That's the heart of the problem.
Any deity who cares more about whether or not people believe in him than he does about how they treat each other is an immoral deity.
I don't care if such a deity exists. I will not worship it.
If God is truly benevolent, he would be more likely to accept an atheist into heaven than he would to accept a religious zealot who proclaims that everyone of other faiths is automatically doomed to hell.

Hmm, that's funny. I would much rather be wrong in disbelieving in God who is, according to the logic available to me, alternately irrational, impotent, or malevolent, than a God who is any of those things. And if you're going to come out and say that my human reason just isn't up to the task of understanding Him, well, by your system he made me, so again he was either irrational or just plain mean in so doing. To my mind it's more comfortable to live without a God than with one who is, apparantly, bat-**** crazy. Maybe that's just me.

I think you misunderstand many of us completely. I am no more angry with your god than I am with the Tooth Fairy. I believe both are equally as likely to be real. I am an atheist. As for your weak version of Pascal's Wager, shouldn't you also to be praying to Allah just in case you are wrong about which is the real god? Hey, I'm just looking out for you.

"God of love and peace and happiness ... burn in hell for eternity"
It surely amazes everyone that someone can utter this in the same sentence without realizing how completely self-contradicting it is?
I hope you're very young Danielle, because you are remarkably foolish for anyone much over about 13, and I know some bright 13yos. Your condescension and hectoring is just horrible and whatever this "love" is you say you express so completely, it's not making its way over to the rest of us. You sound shrill, bitter and judgmental. Stop it.

Your world view is very sweet and very very naive. Christians have done horrendous things honey, you need to study a bit more history.
God slaughtered thousands or even millions of people including pregnant women, the infirm, and babies in the Old Testament. If that is your idea of a god of "love and peace and happiness" you are welcome to him.
Deut 20:16 But of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth:
20:17 But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee.

I agree completely. Revelation 5:13, Revelation 1:7, Jude 17-23, Philippians 2:10-11. I know how you feel, but have faith. Please read those verses. If they do not listen now they will find out the truth sooner or later.

Amen, Ladies, you are so right. Remember Lazarus and the rich man. You have Moses and the prophets. If they won't listen to them, they would not believe even if someone rose from the dead.
