It's plate tectonics, my little green friend. Species became disjunct as the continents drifted apart. There was plenty of time for Kermitus Rex and Mispigasaurus to work their way up the food chain.

proto-frog... ??? man, that makes no sense, man, I mean, like would that be like proto-planets, man, I mean, a bunch of junk collapsing in gravitational field, I mean, how would a first proto-frog evolve, man ? I mean, like from proto-tadpoles... ?
I mean, are Poles a tad proto ?, or something, man ? I mean, being Polish, it bothers me, man...? (collapses from mental effort)

the real question is who would be bored enough to make 5250 different species of frogs? do you really want a frog-o-maniac for a god?

multinuclei theory? - perhaps evolution did not have a single growth point, but rather, species evolved from several different "nuclei", which acted as separate growth points for evolution? it's possible.
